Job Summary:
MDCPS is seeking an experienced and technically skilled Database Administrator (DBA) with a minimum of 5+ years of experience in SQL database administration. In this role, the DBA will be the primary respondent to database problems that arise and will carry out periodic maintenance and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will help write and optimize in-application SQL statements, ensuring the performance, security, and availability of databases. This position requires preparing documentation and specifications, handling common database procedures such as upgrade, backup, recovery, and migration, and profiling server resource usage to optimize and tweak as necessary. Collaboration with other team members and stakeholders is essential. Good verbal communication skills are required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond in a timely manner to user-reported errors.
- Protect the database against threats or unauthorized access.
- Ensure that the database is adequately backed up and able to be recovered in the event of memory loss.
- Report on metrics regarding usage and performance.
- Suggest changes and improvements for database maintenance or protection.
- Regularly liaise with IT project managers and database programmers.
- Design databases with both front-end and back-end users in mind.
- Write and optimize in-application SQL statements.
- Ensure performance, security, and availability of databases.
- Prepare documentation and specifications.
- Handle common database procedures such as upgrade, backup, recovery, migration, etc.
- Profile server resource usage and optimize and tweak as necessary.
- Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in SQL database administration.
- Skilled at optimizing large, complicated SQL statements.
- Knowledge of best practices when dealing with relational databases.
- Capable of configuring popular database engines and orchestrating clusters as necessary.
- Ability to plan resource requirements from high-level specifications.
- Capable of troubleshooting common database issues.
- Familiar with tools that can aid with profiling server resource usage and optimizing.
- Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as GitLab.
- Familiar with SSIS packages.
- Experience with Windows 10 (Intermediate).
- Experience with SQL Server 2008 & Higher (Intermediate).
- Experience with SQL (Intermediate).
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Server OS 2008/2012 (Intermediate).

Compensation & Location
Salary: $60,000 – $120,000 per year (Estimated)
