Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Tomcat Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in middleware platforms, with a specialization in Apache Tomcat administration, build, and support activities. This role involves deploying and managing Tomcat applications within complex production environments, ensuring high availability, security, and optimal performance. Experience with Red Hat OpenShift, Ansible, and other automation tools is crucial.
Key Responsibilities
- Tomcat Administration & Maintenance: Manage large-scale Apache Tomcat installations, including upgrades, patching, and configuration management.
- Performance Tuning: Optimize JVM performance, thread pools, and connector settings to maintain service levels.
- Security: Conduct vulnerability management, regular security scans, and implement hardened configurations.
- Troubleshooting: Analyze complex service level issues and identify root causes in production environments.
- Infrastructure Collaboration: Work with DevOps teams to integrate Tomcat with NGINX, Apache HTTPd, or load balancers.
- Automation: Utilize scripting for deployments and routine maintenance tasks.
- Deployment: Deploy Tomcat applications in Red Hat OpenShift container platform.
- DNS & Load Balancing: Create DNS URLs, CNAME records, and request load balancer creation for all instances.
- Configuration Management: Utilize Chef JSON files and Autosys jobs for server environment setup and auto-reboots.
- Certifications: Handle Y8 Cert creations for DB2.
- Readiness: Ensure all PSE PROD servers are in ‘Break Glass’ status before Go-Live.
Required Skills and Experience
- 6 years of experience in middleware platforms with specialization in Tomcat build and support activities.
- Understanding of deploying Tomcat applications in Red Hat Openshift container platform.
- Experience with Ansible and OpenShift is essential.
- Knowledge of RF systems, communications networks, and tower infrastructure is a plus.
- Proven financial management experience.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple teams.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with NGINX, Apache HTTPd.
- Scripting for automation (e.g., Python, Bash).
- Familiarity with Autosys jobs for scheduling and maintenance.
