Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled COBOL Developer to join the team at American Equity. This is a 6-month contract-to-hire position with the potential for long-term employment. The role involves working on COBOL programs related to actuarial functions within the LifePro system. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in COBOL, SQL, and ETL tools, with a preference for experience in the insurance or financial services industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Code, test, and debug COBOL programs, particularly those related to actuarial functions.
- Maintain and document program code and procedures.
- Assist in the review and analysis of defined systems specifications.
- Work within the LifePro system daily.
- Collaborate with other developers and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
- Provide weekly status reports on project progress.
- Interface with users to develop procedures and gather requirements.
- Analyze system solutions and perform on-call responsibilities as needed.

Business Initiatives/Project:
Candidate will be working on COBOL programs derived from actuarial programs within the LifePro system. The team currently operates using Agile methodology, with an SM assisting in daily stand-ups.
Team Structure:
The candidate will join a small team consisting of 2 other COBOL Developers and 2 non-COBOL Developers.
Specific Industry/Company Experience:
Experience in the Life & Annuity (L&A) sector is highly desired, particularly with the LifePro system.
Interview Process:
The interview process consists of one 45-minute interview.
Education and Experience:
- Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; OR a minimum of 4 years of related experience and/or training in coding, testing, and debugging.
- A minimum of 1 year of application development (integration) experience in the investments/finance background is required.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $70,000 – $100,000 per year (Estimated)
