Job Summary:
We are looking for a Senior Roku Developer to join a leading digital streaming client. This is a 100% remote, 6-month contract position focused on enhancing and scaling Roku OTT applications. The role requires hands-on experience in performance optimization, video playback, and production-quality channel development, ideal for engineers with a background in major OTT platforms or high-volume streaming environments.
Responsibilities:
- Develop Roku applications using BrightScript and SceneGraph.
- Architect and implement scalable UI and navigation flows for an optimal user experience.
- Optimize video playback performance and manage memory footprint effectively.
- Implement adaptive streaming technologies (HLS/DASH) and troubleshoot Digital Rights Management (DRM) issues.
- Integrate backend APIs and content feeds to ensure seamless content delivery.
- Monitor application performance in production and debug issues promptly.
- Collaborate effectively with UX/UI designers, backend engineers, and product management teams.
Required Skills:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience.
- Deep, hands-on experience with Roku development, including BrightScript and SceneGraph.
- Strong understanding of OTT streaming principles and video playback technologies.
- Proficiency with HLS, MPEG-DASH, and various video codecs.
- Knowledge of DRM concepts (Widevine, PlayReady, FairPlay).
- Experience with REST APIs, JSON, and version control systems like Git.
- Proven ability in performance optimization and debugging complex issues.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with ad integrations (e.g., RAF).
- Familiarity with subscription models (AVOD/SVOD) and flows.
- Exposure to Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Experience with analytics integration for streaming platforms.
