Job Title: Workday HR Technical Lead

Location: Hybrid in Andover, MA

Duration: 3-6 Months

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Workday HR Technical Lead to join our team for a hybrid role in Andover, MA. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Workday HCM, Payroll, and Financials, including hands-on configuration and support. This role requires a strong understanding of HR operations, compliance, and data governance, with a preference for experience in the medical device, biotech, or pharmaceutical industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Workday System Leadership: Serve as the subject matter expert for multiple Workday modules including Core HCM, Compensation, Talent Management, Benefits, Payroll, Absence, and Time Tracking. Provide technical expertise and leadership in Workday configuration, customization, and optimization. Lead configuration, testing, and deployment of Workday enhancements and new functionality. Oversee integrations with payroll, benefits, learning, and other third-party systems, troubleshooting issues and understanding different integration solutions (e.g., core connector vs. custom studio integrations). Configure Workday to meet specific organizational requirements, including user access, security settings, system notifications, and business processes. Develop and execute test plans to ensure the Workday system functions correctly and meets business needs. Investigate, triage, and troubleshoot escalated issues and system outages, performing root-cause analysis and exercising appropriate problem management strategies.
  • Business Analysis & Process Optimization: Collaborate with HR and business leaders to understand strategic goals and translate them into system solutions. Lead requirements gathering, process mapping, and documentation for HR workflows. Translate requirements into functional specifications and system configurations. Identify opportunities for automation and workflow optimization. Analyze and improve HR processes to increase efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Compliance & Data Governance: Ensure Workday configurations and data management practices align with FDA, SOX, GDPR, and other regulatory requirements. Conduct regular audits and partner with internal audit teams to maintain data integrity and security. Support ad hoc reporting needs and scheduled report distribution.
  • Project Management & Stakeholder Engagement: Lead Workday-related projects including module implementations, upgrades, and cross-functional initiatives. Support operational teams in adopting new Workday features and processes. Manage vendors during incidents, enhancements, or maintenance of the application. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including HR, IT, Finance, and external vendors. Ensure best practices are followed, and timelines and budgets are adhered to.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Information Systems, Human Resources, Business, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience with Workday HCM, Payroll, and Financials, including hands-on configuration and support.
  • Familiarity with ADP is a plus.
  • Experience in the medical device, biotech, or pharmaceutical industry strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of HR operations, compliance requirements, and data governance.
  • Proven ability to define business processes and translate them into system requirements.
  • Experience with software testing, validation, and requirements documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and drive initiatives as an individual contributor.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and influence stakeholders across functions.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into business language.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Workday Pro Certification (Compensation, Talent, or Reporting modules).
  • PMP or Agile certification.
  • HR certifications (e.g., SHRM-SCP, HRCI).
  • Experience supporting Workday implementations or upgrades.
  • Exposure to change management or process improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with compliance and audit requirements in regulated environments.

Special Requirements

Hybrid role. Experience in medical device, biotech, or pharmaceutical industry strongly preferred. Familiarity with ADP is a plus. Workday Pro Certification, PMP or Agile certification, HR certifications are preferred. Experience supporting Workday implementations or upgrades. Exposure to change management or process improvement initiatives. Familiarity with compliance and audit requirements in regulated environments.


Compensation & Location

Salary: $75 – $95 per year

Location: Andover, MA
