Job Title: PeopleSoft Database Analyst IV

This is a remote contract role with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, requiring the candidate to be a Wisconsin resident. The contract is for 6+ months, with potential for flexible hours outside of the standard 8-5 PM for maintenance processes. The role requires a minimum of 12 years of experience and a WI Driver’s License.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Minimum 3 years in-depth technical and functional knowledge of Oracle database performance tuning.
  • Minimum 2 years experience using multiple methods and technologies with RMAN, and Data Guard.
  • Minimum 3 years experience performing detailed, highly technical root cause analysis of Oracle database systems.
  • Minimum 2 years experience with the ability to create scripts to automate processes in Oracle database environments.

Project Details:

The University of Wisconsin-Madison is undertaking a significant infrastructure upgrade, replacing current Exadata Cloud at Customer (C2C) X9 servers with new Exadata Cloud at Customer (C2C) X11 servers. This project involves configuring high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) for databases during installation and migration from the Exadata X9s to the new Exadata X11s. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in migrating all databases (both ERP and non-ERP) to the new Exadata X11 architecture with HA and DR configured as required. This position is for an Oracle DBA expert to assist UW with the migration, tuning, and troubleshooting of the database environments.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Must be a WI resident.
  • Minimum 12 years of experience.
  • Must possess a WI Driver’s License.
  • Experience with Oracle releases 19.x and 26.x.
  • Proficiency in RMAN, Data Guard, scripting, and automation.
  • Familiarity with the full license feature set (multitenancy, advanced compression, partitioning, cloud management pack) is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with Exadata Critical Patch updates is preferred.
  • Willingness to work alternate shifts (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and weekends as required.

Nice to Have:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in Higher Education environments, particularly complex ones with diverse stakeholders.

Goal of Engagement:

  • Review current database Exadata architecture and assist in creating a new architecture.
  • Create or assist in creating a migration strategy/plan.
  • Migrate or assist with the migration of databases to the new Exadata.
  • Provide tuning, troubleshooting, and automation as required.

The consultant will work in conjunction with UW-Madison personnel to complete the project.


Special Requirements

Candidate must be a WI resident. Must have WI DL. Must be willing to work alternate shifts (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and weekends. Webcam interviews may be required.


Compensation & Location

Salary: $70 – $90 per year (Estimated)

Location: Madison, WI
