Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer for a remote contract opportunity. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Linux systems, TCP/IP networking, and automation scripting. This role involves developing and maintaining backend services, workflows, and automation for fleet management and server lifecycle operations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop back-end services, workflows, and automation for fleet management and full server lifecycle (network boot, firmware updates, OS provisioning, failure detection, erase, and decom).
  • Develop out-of-band server management tooling in a multi-vendor environment, including state management and telemetry collection.
  • Write and review code, test changes on hardware, and automate testing processes.
  • Troubleshoot provisioning, firmware update, and network boot issues end-to-end.
  • Apply principles of computer science and mathematical analysis to the design, development, testing, and evaluation of software and systems.
  • Analyze user needs and design, test, and develop software to meet those needs.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Experience: 3+ years in systems engineering and server management.
  • Networking: Deep understanding of TCP/IP network fundamentals and troubleshooting network boot processes.
  • Operating Systems: Extensive experience with Linux systems and server systems management, including provisioning, firmware updates, and lifecycle management.
  • Automation: Proficiency in coding and scripting for automation using languages such as Python, Go, Rust, Bash, or Ruby.
  • Server Management Protocols: Experience with automating management of large fleets of server hardware (Redfish, IPMI).
  • Troubleshooting: Proven ability to analyze server/systems architecture and components.
  • Cloud & Container Technologies: Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and/or cloud deployment technologies.

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a relevant field is required. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Linux/TCP/IP certification is preferred but not strictly required.

Top 3 Must-Have Skills

  1. TCP/IP Network Fundamentals: Deep understanding of networking concepts and troubleshooting network boot processes.
  2. Linux Systems & Server Management: Experience managing Linux servers, including provisioning, firmware updates, and lifecycle management.
  3. Coding & Scripting for Automation: Proficiency in automation using languages such as Python, Go, Rust, Bash, or Ruby.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with Server Management Protocols (Redfish, IPMI).
  • Familiarity with Cloud & Container Technologies (Kubernetes, Docker, cloud deployment).
  • Experience with Troubleshooting Analytics.
  • Linux/TCP/IP Certification.

Compensation & Location

Salary: $60 – $85 per year (Estimated)
