Role Overview
The Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Senior Software Configuration/Release Engineer to join the state’s infrastructure team in Atlanta, Georgia. This pivotal role is designed for a professional who excels in the intersection of software development and IT operations, specifically focusing on the design, automation, and maintenance of cloud configuration and release management processes across the GTA’s AWS environments. As a senior member of the team, you will be instrumental in ensuring that the state’s cloud platforms are highly available, secure, compliant, and well-governed through the implementation of effective automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Cloud Configuration & Infrastructure Automation: You will be responsible for developing and maintaining robust configuration management processes and standards for AWS environments. This includes building and deploying Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform to automate the provisioning and lifecycle management of critical AWS resources such as EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, and ACM.
- Release Engineering & AWS DevOps: Support and optimize automation pipelines using the AWS Code Suite, including CodeCommit, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, and CodePipeline. You will work closely with DevOps and Security teams to facilitate stable deployments, rollbacks, and environment readiness.
- Backup, Patching & Compliance: Design and maintain automated AWS backup solutions to ensure data integrity and resiliency in alignment with state retention policies. You will also implement automated patching workflows to maintain a strong security posture and conduct periodic audits of environment configurations.
- Security & Certificate Management: Manage the full lifecycle of SSL/TLS certificates across AWS services, ensuring secure communication and alignment with federal and state security requirements.
- Documentation & Governance: Maintain detailed documentation of configuration baselines and IaC standards. You will also provide training and guidance to junior team members on best practices for AWS infrastructure and automation.
Technical Requirements and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in configuration management is required, with a heavy emphasis on Terraform and AWS services. Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation is highly preferred. Candidates with AWS or Terraform certifications will be given priority. Experience working within state or local government environments is a significant plus, as is familiarity with Agile delivery tools and organizational change management (OCM).
Work Environment and Benefits
This position is based in Atlanta, GA, and follows a hybrid work model, requiring the engineer to be in the office at least two days per week. This role offers the opportunity to work on large-scale, statewide services that impact millions of citizens. The position requires on-site interviews and is restricted to candidates who are Permanent Residents of the United States.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $42 – $55 per year
