Role Overview: AI Lead

We are looking for a visionary AI Lead to spearhead enterprise-wide AI transformation for a major utility provider in San Francisco. This is a high-impact leadership role focused on defining the strategic roadmap for Generative AI and Machine Learning. You will be responsible for moving AI initiatives from conceptual stages to production-ready solutions that address critical operational challenges in the utility sector, including wildfire safety and grid optimization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the enterprise AI vision, roadmap, and operating model for a large-scale utility organization.
  • Lead the design and deployment of high-impact GenAI solutions, including consultation agents and regulatory Q&A automation.
  • Establish robust AI governance frameworks, focusing on model risk management, compliance, and auditability.
  • Drive the adoption of AI/ML across diverse business units, including IT, Operations, Customer Care, and Field Ops.
  • Architect AI solutions using platforms such as Azure OpenAI and AWS Bedrock, ensuring scalability and security.
  • Mentor and guide a cross-functional team of data scientists, ML engineers, and product owners.
  • Promote AI literacy and change management across the enterprise to foster a data-driven culture.
  • Collaborate with VP and Senior Director level stakeholders to align AI initiatives with broader business goals.

Technical Requirements

  • Deep expertise in Machine Learning, Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation).
  • Strong hands-on experience with AI orchestration and deployment in regulated environments.
  • Proficiency in cloud-based AI platforms (Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, or Google Vertex AI).
  • Knowledge of Responsible AI frameworks such as NIST AI RMF and ISO 42001.
  • Experience leading enterprise-scale digital transformation or AI programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience in AI/ML, data engineering, or digital transformation.
  • Specific domain experience in the utility sector, particularly in wildfire safety, grid operations, or regulatory compliance.
  • Proven track record of leading cross-functional programs in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.

Compensation & Location

Salary: $240,000 – $330,000 per year (Estimated)
