We are currently seeking a highly proficient and dedicated Appian Developer to join our technical team in North Quincy, MA. This position is a 6-month contract (C2C) and requires the candidate to be onsite. As we move into 2026, the demand for low-code automation and robust Business Process Management (BPM) solutions has never been higher. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of enterprise digital transformation, leveraging the Appian platform to streamline complex business workflows and enhance operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Application Design and Development: You will be responsible for the end-to-end design and development of enterprise-grade applications on the Appian BPM platform. This includes creating complex process models, designing intuitive user interfaces (SAIL), and configuring data stores and integration objects.
  • Java Integration: Given the technical nature of our environment, a solid background in Java is essential. You will develop custom plugins, handle complex data transformations, and ensure seamless connectivity between Appian and various backend systems.
  • Architectural Excellence: You will implement scalable and reusable design patterns, ensuring that the applications developed are not only functional but also maintainable and performant under high load.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Working within a Global Delivery Model, you will interact with business analysts, project managers, and end-users to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Quality Assurance: You will participate in rigorous testing phases, including unit testing, integration testing, and user acceptance testing (UAT), to ensure the delivery of high-quality, bug-free software.
  • Mentorship and Leadership: As an L2 Certified developer, you may be expected to provide technical guidance to junior developers and participate in code reviews to maintain best practices across the team.

Required Technical Expertise

  • Appian BPM: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with the Appian platform, including recent versions. Deep knowledge of SAIL, process modeling, and expression rules is mandatory.
  • Certification: A valid Appian L2 Certification is a strict requirement for this role.
  • Java Development: Strong proficiency in Java/J2EE, with experience in developing web services (REST/SOAP) and custom Appian plugins.
  • Database Management: Proficiency in SQL and experience working with relational databases like Oracle, MySQL, or SQL Server.
  • Design Patterns: A thorough understanding of software design patterns and their application in a BPM context.
  • Agile Methodology: Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment, participating in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.

Soft Skills and Professional Attributes

Beyond technical prowess, the ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. You must be able to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Problem-solving is at the heart of this role; we are looking for someone who can think critically and develop innovative solutions to challenging business problems. The ability to manage time effectively and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment is also crucial.
