About the Role:
We are seeking a highly technical and experienced Application Architect to lead a critical internal application ecosystem modernization effort. This role is ideal for a candidate who thrives in complex environments, possesses exceptional critical thinking skills, and can transform ambiguity into clear, actionable plans. You will be instrumental in refactoring and migrating both the back-end (.NET to Azure) and front-end (Xamarin to MAUI) of a key internal application. This is a unique opportunity to tackle significant technical debt and drive innovation within a dynamic landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the application architecture for a front-end and back-end modernization initiative for an internal employee-facing mobile application.
- Spearhead system design and overhaul for other large-scale internal systems.
- Collaborate effectively with internal technical teams, vendors, and vendor teams.
- Drive clarity and action in a complex, legacy environment with multiple stakeholders.
- Balance the need for modernization with pragmatic business requirements, ensuring new features can be integrated without halting progress.
- Develop thoughtful approaches to modernization that consider both immediate needs and future scalability.
- Ensure architectural decisions are well-documented and communicated, including architecture decision records and specifications using the C4 model.
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven track record in System and Application Modernization, particularly within the .NET and Azure ecosystem.
- Extensive experience with Microservices, including orchestration, understanding end-to-end data flow, read-side issues, and resiliency/failure handling on the write side.
- Exceptional critical thinking skills with the ability to translate ambiguity into clear, actionable plans.
- Strong experience with the Microsoft Cloud stack, including backend C# development and Azure Cloud Services.
- Demonstrated experience in system design and creating architectural artifacts for Architecture Review Boards.
- Mobile application development experience is required.
- Experience with MAUI is strongly preferred.
- Outstanding communication skills, comfortable engaging with both technical and non-technical team members.
- A passion for modernization coupled with a pragmatic approach to business needs.
- Ability to thrive in a challenging environment, driving clarity and action amidst complexity.

- Employment Type: Contract to Hire (C/CTH)
- Location: Remote (Preference for MI, IN, IL, OH, WI, KY, or PA, but open to candidates in East or Central time zones)
Special Requirements
Genuine visa sponsorship (PV) is required. Kforce is the vendor. Preference for location in MI, IN, IL, OH, WI, KY, or PA but will consider anyone in East or Central time zones. Looking for an architect who is not doing any coding currently, but has been in a dedicated architect role most recently.
Compensation & Location
Salary: $120,000 – $160,000 per year (Estimated)
