Job Description: AS400 SYNON Developer
We are seeking a skilled AS400 SYNON Developer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the maintenance and support of AS400 systems, including batch job scheduling, security, and integration with external applications. This role requires strong RPG programming skills and experience with SYNON 2E/ALLUSION 2E.
Key Responsibilities:
- AS400 maintenance and support on batch jobs scheduling (daily, weekly, monthly), maintenance.
- AS400 security, defining roles and all security related functionality.
- AS400 integration with external applications like FRC, flat files, EDI.
- AS400 EDI support including Gentran translation and interface with SAP-40B, ABAP development.
- AS400 and RPG functions.
- Interfaces between AS400 and SAP release 40B.
- Month end support for all jobs run between AS400 and other applications.
- Provide All Fusion 2E programming and support for IBM iServer application systems development and maintenance projects, with a commitment to internal and external customer satisfaction.
- Design, implement and maintain application systems.
- Provide a general knowledge of the user function and work with the users and more experienced I/S personnel to develop systems solutions for complex business problems.
- Duties include project leadership on a limited basis, technical design, programming and unit testing.
Environment:
- IBM iServer (v5r4) running core business applications connected to a website (L.A.M.P) serving as an additional user front-end for some of the core business applications.
- Microsoft Office Excel and Access are used occasionally to create stand alone solutions to small business problems.
Primary Functions:
- Perform all activities and responsibilities with an emphasis on quality, focused on the internal or external customer needs, and completing assignments in a timely manner according to the agreed upon schedule.
- Provide a general functional knowledge, working systems design knowledge, and project leadership for small application systems projects.
- Play a team role in systems design decisions relative to functionality, architecture and databases for complex information systems.
- Provide a thorough knowledge of the technical aspects of systems development, including database and computer architecture, and a thorough knowledge of the programming languages used.
- Assist in the definition of user requirements and in the development of functional specifications. Develop detailed level technical specifications and detail program specifications.
- Provide programming and technical design task estimates and contribute to project planning activities.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of all common application development software in use by the organization.
- Play a team role in developing standards and programming techniques and ensure adherence by attending technical design reviews.
- Develop a thorough operational and functional understanding of assigned systems for maintenance purposes. Resolve any technical problems affecting production systems and implement production recoveries.
A Programmer/Analyst is competent to work on all difficult phases of programming and design and many phases of complex systems design and programming.
Work Relationships:
- This position reports to the Manager of Applications Development.
- Project assignments require a team approach within the Development and Support Group working with other developers and the Business Analysts. There is cross-functional interaction with IS Operations and IS Network personnel and End Users from all business departments.
Experience and Education Requirements:
- 4-year Information Systems-related Degree and at least 3-5 years of qualified systems development experience. Additional demonstrated qualified development experience in a corporate environment and a 2-year degree may be substituted for the 4-year degree.
- IBM System iServer (iSeries AS/400) expertise.
- CASE Software expertise using AllFusion 2E (formerly SYNON 2/E; Advantage 2E).
- iServer RPG, CL, FTP, Query, DBU, MKS Implementer (CM for AllFusion 2E), Interactive DeBug.
- Demonstrated use of Structured Design & Programming methodologies.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
- PC expertise using Microsoft Office products to solve business problems with emphasis on Microsoft Excel and Access.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $70 – $90 per year
