Job Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Software Configuration/Release Engineer with extensive experience in AWS environments for a 6+ month Contract-to-Hire position in Atlanta, GA. This is a hybrid role requiring candidates to be onsite two days per week. The client is looking for candidates who will consider full-time employment after a performance review. Candidates must be Permanent Residents (US Citizens or Green Card Holders).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cloud Configuration & Infrastructure Automation: Develop, implement, and maintain configuration management processes, policies, and standards for AWS environments. Build, deploy, and enhance Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform to automate provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management of AWS resources (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, ACM). Manage and optimize multiple environments (Dev, Test, Stage, Prod) ensuring configuration consistency and security.
  • Release Engineering & AWS DevOps: Support automation pipelines using the AWS Code Suite: CodeCommit, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, and CodePipeline. Work closely with DevOps teams to support release activities, deployments, rollbacks, configuration updates, and environment readiness.
  • Backup, Patching & Compliance: Design and maintain automated AWS backup solutions to ensure data integrity, resiliency, and compliance with state retention policies. Implement automated patching workflows for cloud infrastructure to maintain required security and compliance posture. Conduct periodic audits of environment configuration, patch levels, backup integrity, and certificate compliance; recommend and implement improvements.
  • Security & Certificate Management: Manage installation, renewal, rotation, and validation of SSL/TLS certificates across AWS services. Ensure secure communication configurations and alignment with state and federal security requirements.
  • Documentation, Governance & Training: Maintain detailed, accurate documentation of configuration baselines, IaC standards, module usage, and environment changes. Provide training and guidance to team members on Terraform, AWS infrastructure best practices, backup strategies, patch automation, and certificate management.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field; or equivalent professional training, certification, or experience.
  • Eight (8) years of configuration management experience.
  • Proficiency with Terraform and IaC methodologies (Required 3 Years).
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, ACM) (Required 7 Years).
  • Experience with cloud backup solutions and automated patching (Required 7 Years).
  • Expertise in SSL/TLS certificate management and security best practices (Required 7 Years).
  • Senior experience using the AWS Code Suite: CodeCommit, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, and CodePipeline (Required 7 Years).
  • Experience maintaining detailed, accurate documentation (Required 3 Years).
  • Experience providing training and guidance (Required 3 Years).
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a proactive approach to cloud optimization.
  • Ability to break down complex problems, create tactical plans, and contribute to strategic improvements.
  • Attention to detail with strong diagnostic and problem-investigation abilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and planning abilities.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and able to work in fast-paced environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Scripting experience (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation within AWS/Terraform.
  • AWS Certification(s) and/or Terraform Certification.
  • Experience working with state or local government environments.
  • Experience with vendor oversight or management.
  • Experience with project management or Agile delivery tools.
  • Experience with organizational change management (OCM).
