Job Description

Seeking a highly experienced Azure Cloud Architect to join a dynamic team supporting state government infrastructure. This role focuses on managing, optimizing, and securing Azure-based resources, including Azure Front Door, Web Application Firewall (WAF), Key Vault, and core Azure services. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with stakeholders to ensure high availability, performance, and security of cloud environments while providing vital training to internal staff for ongoing system management. This is a fully remote opportunity with the potential for a long-term engagement. All hardware will be supplied.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and optimize Azure resources such as Azure Front Door, Imperva WAF, Key Vault, Azure Virtual Networks, ExpressRoute, Load Balancers, VMs, App Services, AKS, and storage solutions.
  • Ensure performance, security, and compliance of Azure environments tailored for government standards.
  • Implement and enforce security policies within Azure Gov Cloud, including Azure AD, RBAC, encryption, and Azure Security Center.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure adherence to data governance standards like GDPR, HIPAA, and IRS 1075.
  • Monitor system health using Azure Monitor, Application Insights, and Log Analytics, addressing issues proactively.
  • Collaborate with the Alabama Office of Information Technology to align policies and infrastructure strategies.
  • Provide hands-on training and detailed documentation to DHR staff to foster independence in managing Azure resources.

Required Skills/Education

  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing Azure firewall, Azure Front Door, WAF, and related networking components.
  • Extensive knowledge of Azure networking (Virtual Network, ExpressRoute, Load Balancers) and core Azure services.
  • Strong understanding of Azure security features, including Azure AD, RBAC, encryption, and Security Center.
  • Proven ability to design scalable, secure, and cost-efficient cloud solutions.
  • Experience working in or with government/regulatory environments with a focus on compliance.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with a focus on cloud performance and reliability.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively train and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Skills

  • Azure certifications such as Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
  • Prior experience supporting government agencies or regulated industries.
  • Demonstrated success in technical training and mentorship.

Compensation & Location

Salary: $130,000 – $170,000 per year
