Role Overview: Azure Data Architect
We are seeking a highly seasoned Azure Data Architect with a minimum of 14 years of professional experience in the IT industry to lead a strategic, part-time project for a direct client. This role is 100% remote and requires a deep understanding of the Microsoft Azure data ecosystem, specifically tailored for large-scale enterprise environments. As a senior-level architect, you will be responsible for the end-to-end design and implementation of robust data solutions that leverage the full power of cloud-native technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable data architectures using Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Databricks.
- Develop comprehensive data modeling strategies, including relational, dimensional, and NoSQL approaches to support diverse business requirements.
- Lead the migration of legacy on-premises data warehouses to Azure-based cloud solutions, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity.
- Establish data governance frameworks and security protocols using Azure Purview and role-based access control (RBAC) to protect sensitive information.
- Optimize ETL/ELT pipelines for performance and cost-efficiency, utilizing Spark-based processing and automated orchestration.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate complex data needs into technical specifications and actionable architectural blueprints.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior data engineers, ensuring adherence to best practices in cloud architecture.
- Conduct performance tuning and troubleshooting of complex data workflows to ensure high availability and low latency.
Technical Requirements
- 14+ years of experience in Data Engineering and Architecture, with at least 6 years focused on Azure Cloud.
- Expertise in Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, and Azure Stream Analytics.
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, and Scala for data manipulation and analysis.
- Strong understanding of DevOps practices for data (DataOps), including CI/CD pipelines for database deployments.
- Experience with Power BI for data visualization and reporting integration.
- Proven track record of delivering high-impact data projects for Fortune 500 clients or large enterprise organizations.
Project Details
This is a part-time engagement designed for an expert who can provide high-level strategic guidance and architectural oversight. The project focuses on modernizing a specific segment of the client’s data infrastructure to support advanced analytics and machine learning initiatives. Candidates must be able to work independently in a remote capacity and demonstrate exceptional communication skills to bridge the gap between technical teams and executive leadership. Due to the nature of the client’s data, this position is strictly limited to US Citizens or Green Card holders.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $185,000 – $245,000 per year (Estimated)
