Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Azure Data Architect with a deep background in the Insurance domain to join our dynamic team in Madison, WI. This is a hybrid role requiring three days of onsite collaboration per week. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of enterprise data architecture and data structures specifically aligned with Azure and Snowflake services. You will be responsible for conceptualizing and delivering high-impact data products tailored for insurance-specific domains, including Customer, Claims, and Policy management. This position offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of data technology, leveraging MS Fabric and the broader Azure ecosystem to drive business value through advanced analytics and insights.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and govern conceptual, logical, and physical data models for various Insurance domains, ensuring they are optimized for the creation of scalable Data products.
- Understand and implement enterprise data architecture strategies that align with Azure and Snowflake services to support long-term business goals.
- Map complex data elements from insurance workflows and legacy applications to modern Operational Data Stores (ODS) and Data Warehousing environments.
- Partner closely with business stakeholders, data engineering teams, and platform architects to enable the creation of actionable insights that deliver measurable value to the organization.
- Support and optimize Azure-based data platforms and products, focusing on performance tuning, cost management, and future extensibility.
- Develop and maintain robust data pipelines and engineering workflows using SQL and Python, ensuring high data quality and reliability.
- Lead the transition toward modern data architectures, including the implementation of MS Fabric and Datalake concepts.
- Conceptualize and design reports and dashboards that provide clear visibility into key insurance metrics and operational performance.
Technical Qualifications
- Extensive experience as a Data Architect within the Insurance industry, with specific knowledge of Claims, Policy, and Customer data structures.
- Proven expertise in the Azure platform, including Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse, and Azure Data Factory.
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake Data Warehouse design and implementation.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python for data engineering and pipeline development.
- In-depth knowledge of Data Warehousing concepts, Datalake architectures, and the emerging MS Fabric ecosystem.
- Experience in data modeling tools and methodologies (ER/Studio, Erwin, or similar).
- Ability to translate complex business requirements into technical data specifications.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
Professional Requirements
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience in data architecture, with at least 5 years focused on cloud-based solutions. A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is required. Candidates must demonstrate a track record of delivering successful data projects in the insurance sector. While the primary location is Madison, WI, we are open to candidates in the Chicago area who are willing to commute for the required onsite days. This role demands a proactive problem-solver who can navigate the complexities of enterprise data environments while maintaining a focus on innovation and efficiency.
Special Requirements
Insurance domain experience (Claims, Policy, Customer) is mandatory. Hybrid work model requiring 3 days onsite in Madison, WI or Chicago, IL.
Compensation & Location
Salary: $175,000 – $225,000 per year
