Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Engineer for a critical one-year contract position with our client, Amtrak, located in Philadelphia, PA. This is a hybrid role requiring local candidates who can commute to the office as needed. As a Technical Lead, you will be responsible for the design, automation, and management of a high-performance cloud desktop environment. You will leverage industry-leading tools such as Nerdio, FSLogix, and PowerShell to optimize a scalable Windows 10/11 ecosystem within an ITIL-aligned framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure Leadership: Lead the deployment and maintenance of complex AVD environments using Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates and automated provisioning workflows.
  • Advanced Automation: Develop and maintain sophisticated PowerShell scripts to streamline administrative tasks, environment updates, and operational efficiency.
  • Platform Optimization: Utilize Nerdio Manager for Enterprise to manage auto-scaling, image versioning, and cost-optimization strategies.
  • User Experience Management: Implement and manage persistent user profiles and application layering via FSLogix containers to ensure a seamless end-user experience.
  • Support & Governance: Act as the Tier 3 escalation point for VDI-related issues within ServiceNow and ensure all processes comply with ITIL principles.
  • Cloud Networking: Manage virtual networking components within the Azure ecosystem to support secure and performant desktop delivery.

Technical Qualifications

  • VDI Expertise: Minimum of 2+ years of specialized, hands-on experience with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Nerdio Manager, and FSLogix (Required).
  • Systems Engineering: At least 5+ years of overall experience in systems engineering or cloud infrastructure roles.
  • OS & Cloud Proficiency: Deep technical knowledge of Windows 10/11, Azure Resource Manager (ARM), and Azure virtual networking.
  • Scripting Skills: Advanced proficiency in PowerShell for enterprise-level automation and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Process Knowledge: Strong background in ITIL principles and experience using ServiceNow for incident and change management.

Compensation & Location

Salary: $135,000 – $175,000 per year (Estimated)
