Role Overview: BigQuery DBA with Operations Support

SightSpectrum LLC is seeking a highly skilled BigQuery Database Administrator (DBA) with a strong background in Operations Support for a high-profile project with our client, Verizon. This role is critical for maintaining the integrity, performance, and scalability of large-scale data environments within the Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end administration of BigQuery environments, ensuring that data remains accessible, secure, and optimized for complex analytical queries.

Key Responsibilities and Technical Duties

  • Administer and support Google BigQuery environments, including the management of datasets, tables, views, and granular access controls.
  • Monitor and optimize query performance to ensure low latency and high throughput for business-critical analytics.
  • Manage storage and slot utilization, implementing strategies to balance performance requirements with cost-efficiency.
  • Conduct capacity planning and usage analysis to manage BigQuery costs effectively, utilizing quotas and reservations.
  • Provide L3 production support for BigQuery incidents, performing deep-dive root cause analysis for data issues and query failures.
  • Troubleshoot performance degradation and quota limitations, working closely with infrastructure teams to resolve bottlenecks.
  • Implement security best practices using Google Cloud Identity and Access Management (IAM) and dataset-level permissions to ensure data governance.
  • Support both batch and streaming data ingestion pipelines (e.g., Dataflow, Pub/Sub) into BigQuery, ensuring data consistency and reliability.
  • Collaborate with data engineering and analytics teams to establish platform best practices and architectural standards.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for data availability and system uptime.

Operational Excellence and Strategic Impact

In this role, you will not only manage the technical aspects of the database but also act as a strategic partner in data operations. You will be expected to automate routine tasks using scripting (Python/Bash) and GCP-native tools to improve operational efficiency. As part of the Verizon project, you will handle massive datasets that require sophisticated partitioning and clustering strategies. Your expertise in BigQuery’s internal architecture—including the separation of storage and compute—will be vital in advising stakeholders on how to structure their data for maximum efficiency. Furthermore, you will participate in on-call rotations to ensure 24/7 support for mission-critical data platforms, providing a stable foundation for the client’s data-driven decision-making processes.

Professional Growth and Environment

Joining SightSpectrum means becoming part of a team that values innovation and technical excellence. We provide an environment where you can leverage the latest GCP features and contribute to large-scale digital transformation initiatives. This position requires relocation to Irving, TX, offering the opportunity to work in one of the most dynamic tech hubs in the United States.

Special Requirements

Relocation to Irving, TX is mandatory. Project is for Verizon. Requires comfort with L3 production support and on-call duties.
