Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Business Analyst / Product Manager to serve as a strategic second-in-command to the Lead Product Manager within our Energy and Oil & Gas division. This is a high-impact role designed for a professional who can navigate the complexities of a regulated enterprise environment while balancing business priorities and protecting delivery timelines. The ideal candidate functions as a hybrid BAPM, capable of deep intake analysis, requirement prioritization, and robust delivery governance across distributed stakeholders in Chicago and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary intake point for new business ideas, translating ambiguous concepts into actionable requirements.
  • Rapidly analyze and clarify incomplete requirements to ensure development teams have a clear roadmap.
  • Translate complex business needs into prioritized user stories and functional specifications.
  • Actively manage scope by pushing back on non-value-adding requests using data-driven rationale.
  • Lead backlog grooming and refinement sessions to maintain a healthy pipeline of work.
  • Partner with the Lead Product Manager as a trusted advisor to evaluate delivery trade-offs.
  • Drive alignment on timelines and dependencies across cross-functional teams including IT, Architecture, and Vendors.
  • Support both Agile (Scrum) and Waterfall delivery models depending on specific project needs.
  • Engage stakeholders across multiple geographies, including the West Coast and Midwest, to ensure unified product vision.
  • Facilitate high-level discussions between business units and technical teams to resolve conflicts.
  • Ensure all solutions align with enterprise architecture and strict regulatory compliance standards.
  • Identify delivery risks early and propose comprehensive mitigation strategies to senior leadership.
  • Manage requirements and artifacts using enterprise tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, and Confluence.

Technical Environment & Domain Expertise

The successful candidate will operate within the Energy, Oil & Gas, and Biofuels sector. This requires a deep understanding of the unique regulatory hurdles and operational workflows inherent in these industries. You will be expected to utilize Microsoft Project, Asana, and various documentation tools to maintain executive-level presentations and process maps. The role demands a structured thinker who can balance the need for speed with the necessity of long-term scalable design.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of professional experience as a Business Analyst, Product Manager, or in a hybrid BA/PM capacity.
  • Extensive background in the Energy, Oil & Gas, or Biofuels industry.
  • Proven track record of influencing senior stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Deep expertise in both Agile and Waterfall methodologies within large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Exceptional communication skills, particularly in the context of executive-level reporting and conflict resolution.
  • Experience with Jira, Azure DevOps, and Confluence for requirement lifecycle management.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid capacity in Chicago, IL.

Preferred Certifications

  • Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or equivalent.
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or related Agile certifications.
  • Lean Six Sigma or Process Improvement certifications.

Compensation & Location

Salary: $145,000 – $195,000 per year (Estimated)

Location: Chicago, IL
