Role Overview

Jessica Technologies is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cloud Data Engineer to join our development team in support of the Virginia Department of Health (VDH). This is a critical onsite role based in Richmond, VA, focused on building modern, cloud-native applications across leading cloud platforms, with a primary emphasis on Microsoft Azure. The successful candidate will work within the Office of Information Management (OIM) and receive strategic guidance from the Solutions Engineering and Architecture Team (SEAT).

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and cloud-native applications using Azure services such as App Service, AKS, Functions, and Storage.
  • Collaborate with the Data Management team to support all data transmission tasks, ensuring data integrity and security across the enterprise.
  • Implement and manage containerized environments using Docker and Kubernetes to optimize application deployment and scaling.
  • Develop robust backend solutions using a variety of programming languages including C#, Java, Python, Go, and Node.js.
  • Utilize Azure DevOps and GitLab for continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices.
  • Ensure cloud security best practices are followed, including IAM management and data protection protocols.
  • Manage and optimize database systems including SQL Server, Oracle, and various NoSQL databases.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and DevOps excellence.
  • Stay updated with emerging data technologies and industry advancements, documenting processes for effective knowledge sharing.

Technical Requirements

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Azure; familiarity with AWS and Google Cloud is a significant plus.
  • Proficiency in cloud services: Azure App Service, AKS, Azure Functions, and Azure Storage.
  • Strong background in container orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Advanced programming skills in C#, Java, Python, or Go.
  • Hands-on experience with DevOps tools: Azure DevOps, GitLab, and Git.
  • Deep understanding of database technologies: SQL Server, Oracle, and NoSQL.
  • Solid grasp of cloud security, IAM, and data protection standards.

Compensation & Location

Salary: $125,000 – $165,000 per year
