Overview of the Cloud Solutions Architect Role with Banking/FinTech Focus
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cloud Solutions Architect to join our Enterprise Architecture team. This onsite role in Phoenix, AZ, is critical for an individual with 15+ years of experience, including a strong background in banking or FinTech ecosystems. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of enterprise-level architecture, cloud technologies (AWS, GCP), and distributed systems. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the technological landscape of our organization, working closely with VPs and Architects to define and implement strategic architectural initiatives.
Key Responsibilities and Architectural Leadership
The Cloud Solutions Architect will play a pivotal role in creating and maintaining enterprise, platform, data, and API architectures. This involves providing technology guidance, developing roadmaps, establishing principles, standards, and best practices across the organization. The role demands a hands-on approach to designing system solutions, understanding complex business requirements, and leading proof-of-concept (POC) initiatives.
- Enterprise Architecture Development: Provide direction, guidance, and implementation of IT Platform architecture to support various Enterprise Architecture requirements and initiatives. This includes creating and maintaining enterprise/platform architectures, data architectures, and API strategies.
- Solution Design and Implementation: Build Enterprise Solution Architecture for new initiatives, ensuring alignment with business goals and technological standards.
- Architectural Artifacts: Hands-on experience in creating Enterprise Architecture Artifacts such such as Models, Documents, and presentations to communicate complex architectural concepts effectively.
- Distributed Application Architectures: Strong experience in creating Distributed Enterprise Application Architectures and Solutions, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
- API Architectures: Strong understanding of creating Enterprise APIs Architectures, Solutions, and Strategies to facilitate seamless integration across systems.
- Data Architecture: Strong understanding of Distributed Data Architecture, encompassing RDBMS (preferably Postgres), NoSQL (preferably Cassandra), and BigData principles and practices.
- Security Principles: Strong understanding of Enterprise Security principles, standards, and technologies to ensure robust and secure solutions.
- IT Infrastructure Architecture: Strong knowledge in various deployment IT Infrastructure Architectures, including On-Premise, Cloud (AWS, GCP), and Hybrid Solutions.
- Programming Languages: Hands-on experience in programming languages such as Golang, Java, NodeJS, or Python is a plus, demonstrating the ability to dive into code when necessary.
- Containerization and Orchestration: Proficiency with Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration of microservices.
- Messaging Systems: Experience with messaging systems like Kafka for building event-driven architectures.
- Agile Methodologies: Experience in Agile, Kanban, and CI/CD LEAN development models is a plus, promoting efficient and iterative development cycles.
- Frameworks and Standards: Experience in enterprise frameworks like TOGAF is a plus, indicating a structured approach to architecture.
Candidate Profile and Industry Focus
The ideal candidate will be a well-groomed professional capable of engaging with cross-functional leaders to define business principles, goals, and strategy. A BS or MS degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field is preferred. Crucially, knowledge and experience in FinTech Eco Systems (Banking, Cards, Payments, Receivables, Money Movement, etc.) are highly valued, with American Express Technology Experience being a significant advantage. This role is open to candidates without prior USA experience, emphasizing global talent. The position requires a minimum of 15 years of overall experience, with at least 10 years specifically in Enterprise, Solution, or Distributed Architecture.
