Position Summary: Cloudera Platform Engineer
We are looking for a Senior Cloudera Platform Engineer to join our infrastructure team in Bloomington, IL. This is a critical contract role focused on the management, configuration, and optimization of a large-scale Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) environment. The ideal candidate will have a deep technical background in Big Data ecosystems and a proven track record of maintaining high-availability platforms in a hybrid cloud setting. You will be responsible for ensuring the stability and performance of our data infrastructure, supporting both on-premises and Azure-based operations.
Detailed Responsibilities and Technical Duties
- Lead the configuration and management of the Cloudera platform, including HDFS, Hive, Yarn, Spark, Kafka, and HBase components.
- Execute platform upgrades, patching, and scaling operations to ensure the environment remains current and secure.
- Perform comprehensive cluster capacity planning and file system management to support growing data demands.
- Implement and maintain robust security protocols using Kerberos, Apache Ranger, and HDFS encryption.
- Design and manage High Availability (HA) configurations for critical services like NameNode, Resource Manager, and Hive Metastore.
- Support Azure cloud operations, focusing on data platform compute, storage, networking, and Identity and Access Management (IAM).
- Develop and maintain automated data ingestion and curation pipelines to streamline data flow across the organization.
- Conduct advanced technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis (RCA) for complex platform issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams within a SAFE Agile framework to deliver infrastructure improvements.
- Mentor junior developers and engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
- Maintain detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and runbooks for all platform operations.
Required Technical Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in Cloudera Platform management and configuration.
- Extensive experience with Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) in both on-premises and cloud environments.
- Strong proficiency in Big Data security tools, specifically Ranger, Sentry, and Kerberos.
- Proven experience with backup and recovery strategies for HDFS and associated metadata services.
- Solid understanding of Azure cloud infrastructure and its integration with Cloudera.
- Experience with GitLab for version control and code management.
- Familiarity with BI tools such as Tableau or Business Objects (BO) from a platform access management perspective.
- Strong SQL and HQL skills for data querying and platform validation.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $85 – $110 per year (Estimated)
