Position Summary
Humac Inc. is currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented CMM Programmer to support our client’s heavy industry manufacturing operations in Lafayette, IN. This onsite role is vital for ensuring the quality and precision of complex CNC machined components. As a CMM Programmer, you will be responsible for developing the automated inspection routines that verify our products meet the highest engineering standards. This position requires a blend of technical programming expertise, a deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles, and the ability to collaborate effectively with production teams in a high-output environment.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop, test, and modify CMM programs to accurately measure complex CNC machined components based on 2D engineering drawings and 3D models.
- Interpret intricate technical specifications and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure all parts comply with design intent.
- Set up, calibrate, and maintain CMM equipment (including probes and fixtures) to ensure consistent measurement accuracy and repeatability.
- Perform detailed first-article and production inspections, documenting all findings in comprehensive inspection reports.
- Analyze measurement data to identify trends, potential defects, or areas for process improvement within the CNC machining workflow.
- Collaborate closely with CNC operators, manufacturing engineers, and quality assurance teams to resolve measurement discrepancies and optimize inspection procedures.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex programming errors or equipment malfunctions to minimize production downtime.
- Maintain a clean and organized inspection lab, adhering to all safety and quality management system protocols.
Technical Qualifications
- Proven experience as a CMM Programmer, specifically within heavy industry, aerospace, or automotive manufacturing sectors.
- Advanced proficiency in industry-standard CMM software, specifically PC-DMIS and Calypso.
- Expert-level ability to read and interpret 2D engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Comprehensive knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) standards.
- Familiarity with CNC machining processes, including understanding of tolerances, tool offsets, and material properties.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high degree of attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively to a team-oriented environment.
Educational & Professional Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in a CMM programming role.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively report quality data to management and engineering teams.
Special Requirements
Onsite requirement in Lafayette, IN; Heavy Industry domain restriction.
Compensation & Location
Salary: $95,000 – $130,000 per year (Estimated)
