Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Conversational AI Developer to join our dynamic engineering team. This remote position, based out of Green, Ohio, offers the opportunity to work at the cutting edge of Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing (NLP). As a Conversational AI Developer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end development of sophisticated chatbots and virtual assistants that enhance user engagement and streamline complex workflows. You will leverage the latest technologies in the Microsoft ecosystem, including Azure Bot Framework and Generative AI models, to deliver enterprise-grade solutions. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about creating seamless, human-like interactions through technology. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, creative problem-solving, and a deep understanding of conversational design principles to build systems that are both functional and engaging for the end-user.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) for scalable conversational interfaces, from initial conceptualization and design to deployment and maintenance.
- Utilize Microsoft Bot Framework (v4), Kore.ai, and other leading CAI platforms to build robust virtual assistants tailored to specific business needs.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, UX/UI designers, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into intuitive conversational flows and user stories.
- Implement advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Natural Language Understanding (NLU) techniques to ensure high accuracy in intent recognition and entity extraction.
- Integrate Generative AI services (such as Azure OpenAI/GPT) to provide personalized, contextually aware, and creative responses that go beyond scripted interactions.
- Develop and deploy chatbots across various channels, including web, mobile, and enterprise messaging platforms, ensuring a consistent user experience.
- Perform rigorous testing, debugging, and performance tuning to ensure high availability, responsiveness, and accuracy of the AI solutions.
- Analyze user interaction logs and telemetry data using Power BI to identify friction points, drop-off areas, and opportunities for NLU optimization.
- Stay abreast of emerging trends in AI, machine learning, and conversational design to maintain a competitive edge and drive innovation within the team.
- Drive the integration of hybrid AI strategies, bridging classical NLU services with modern LLM capabilities for robust fallback handling and content generation.
Technical Requirements and Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in software development, with a specific focus on Conversational AI, Chatbot architecture, or NLP-driven applications.
- Expert-level proficiency in Azure Bot Framework v4, including deep knowledge of Adaptive Dialogs, Waterfall Dialogs, and custom middleware development.
- Strong backend development skills in C#, .NET, and JavaScript, with a focus on building scalable APIs and custom bot logic.
- Hands-on experience with Azure Integration Services, specifically Azure Functions and Logic Apps, for orchestrating complex backend workflows and external system integrations.
- Proven track record of integrating with Salesforce APIs (REST/SOAP) for live agent handoffs, knowledge base retrieval, and automated case management.
- Experience with Azure Cosmos DB for state management, user data storage, and comprehensive telemetry logging.
- Familiarity with Hybrid AI strategies, combining classical NLU (Azure CLU) with Large Language Models (LLMs) for robust fallback handling and dynamic content.
- Knowledge of middleware and ESB platforms like MuleSoft for enterprise-grade data exchange and system connectivity.
- Experience defining and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for automated bot deployment across Dev, Test, and Production environments.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a remote, cross-functional environment with diverse stakeholders.
Benefits and Growth Opportunities
- Opportunity to work with a forward-thinking team in the Higher Education sector, making a tangible impact on student engagement and administrative efficiency.
- Exposure to the latest advancements in Generative AI and LLM integration within an enterprise context, allowing for significant skill expansion.
- Flexible remote work environment with a focus on work-life balance and results-oriented performance metrics.
- Competitive compensation package tailored to the 2026 market standards for senior AI engineering roles in the United States.
