About the Role:
SightSpectrum LLC is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Architect to spearhead a critical enterprise-wide modernization initiative. This strategic, hands-on role involves designing and implementing a robust, multi-zone data architecture on Amazon Web Services (AWS). The primary objective is to create a scalable, integrated, and analytics-ready data platform that significantly reduces operational overhead and minimizes reliance on external vendors. The Data Architect will act as a key liaison, bridging the gap between business stakeholders, data engineers, and data analysts to ensure the successful delivery of a cloud-first, governed, and high-performance data ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the architectural design and deployment of a comprehensive multi-zone AWS data environment, including Raw/Landing, Integration, Analytical, and Reporting zones.
- Establish and enforce enterprise-wide data standards, robust data modeling conventions, and effective data governance practices across the organization.
- Collaborate closely with various business units to translate complex analytics and reporting requirements into practical, scalable, and efficient data solutions.
- Conduct thorough assessments of existing on-premises data systems (e.g., Oracle, Redshift, PostgreSQL, Access) and develop strategic migration plans to AWS, focusing on optimizing performance, managing costs, and ensuring high reliability.
- Implement and maintain best-in-class data security measures, access control policies, and compliance frameworks to protect sensitive information.
- Oversee the development and implementation of data quality frameworks to guarantee the consistency, accuracy, and traceability of key business metrics.
- Evaluate, select, and integrate appropriate AWS-native services and third-party tools to streamline operations and reduce vendor dependencies.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to data engineers and analysts, promoting best practices in data architecture and governance.
- Stay abreast of emerging AWS technologies and industry trends in data management and analytics to continuously enhance the platform’s capabilities and future-proof the architecture.
Roles & Responsibilities in Detail:
- Perform a detailed assessment of current on-premises and cloud-based data systems, identifying any data silos, fragmented tools, inconsistencies, or operational inefficiencies.
- Analyze existing data flows, current reporting mechanisms, and the definitions of key business metrics to understand the current state.
- Engage actively with business stakeholders and technical teams to gather requirements, understand pain points, and align with strategic business objectives.
- Develop and present a proposed multi-zone AWS data architecture (Raw/Landing, Integration, Analytical, Reporting zones) that directly addresses business needs and strategic goals.
- Recommend specific AWS services and tools for data ingestion, transformation, storage, advanced analytics, and reporting functionalities.
- Clearly articulate the data governance, security, and compliance requirements integral to the proposed architecture.
- Create a detailed roadmap and a phased transition plan for migrating from current systems to the new AWS-based architecture.
- Prepare comprehensive documentation and compelling presentations for executive leadership and key stakeholders.
Required Skills & Experience:
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in data architecture or closely related roles, with a proven track record on enterprise-scale projects.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with core AWS data services such as S3, Glue, Redshift, Athena, Lake Formation, and EMR.
- Strong proficiency in ETL/ELT processes, advanced SQL, and various data modeling techniques (e.g., dimensional, relational).
- Proven experience successfully migrating complex data systems to cloud environments and working with multi-database systems.
- A solid understanding of data governance principles, data security best practices, and regulatory compliance frameworks.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across different levels of the organization.
Certifications:
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional (preferred).
- AWS Certified Data Analytics Specialty (highly desirable).
- Knowledge of other cloud platforms (GCP/Azure) or data technologies (e.g., Snowflake) is a plus.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications:
- Experience with leading Business Intelligence (BI) tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker, and a strong understanding of self-service analytics concepts.
- Exposure to DevOps practices and their application to data pipelines and infrastructure management.
- Familiarity with big data frameworks like Spark and Hadoop, and experience integrating AI/ML capabilities into data platforms.
- Previous experience working within cross-functional, global teams is advantageous.
