Role Overview: Senior Data Architect

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Data Architect for a critical 12-month engagement in New York City. This role is designed for a visionary technical leader with over 10 years of enterprise-level experience in designing, implementing, and optimizing complex data ecosystems. As a Data Architect, you will be the primary authority on data modeling, storage strategies, and performance engineering for a high-stakes environment, specifically within the banking and financial services sector. This position requires a hybrid presence, with three days per week onsite at our NYC office, ensuring close collaboration with stakeholders and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities and Strategic Impact

The successful candidate will lead the architectural design of enterprise data warehouses and data lakes, ensuring scalability, security, and high performance. You will be responsible for defining the data roadmap, selecting appropriate technologies, and establishing best practices for data governance and archival. Your expertise in data transformation will be vital as you oversee the migration and integration of disparate data sources into a unified, high-performance architecture. You will work closely with business analysts to translate complex financial requirements into robust technical schemas that support advanced analytics and reporting via Power BI.

Technical Requirements and Expertise

  • Experience: Minimum of 10+ years in enterprise data architecture, with a proven track record of managing large-scale data environments.
  • Data Modeling & Design: Advanced proficiency in conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling. Expertise in data transformation, storage optimization, and performance tuning is mandatory.
  • ETL/Integration Tools: Deep hands-on experience with Informatica or Talend for complex data integration workflows.
  • Database Technologies: Mastery of PostgreSQL, Oracle, and Snowflake. You must understand the nuances of cloud-native vs. on-premise database performance.
  • Analytics & Scripting: Advanced SQL skills and Unix Shell Scripting are essential for automation and data manipulation. Proficiency in Power BI for data visualization is required.
  • Preferred Domain Knowledge: Prior experience in the Banking or Financial Services industry is highly preferred, particularly regarding regulatory compliance and financial data standards.
  • Emerging Tech: Exposure to Python, Databricks, and SPARK is considered a significant advantage for modernizing data pipelines.

Work Environment and Expectations

This is a high-visibility role requiring excellent communication skills. You must be able to articulate complex architectural concepts to non-technical stakeholders while providing deep technical guidance to developers. Given the sensitive nature of the data and the collaborative requirements of the project, this role is strictly for local candidates who can commit to a hybrid schedule in NYC. The interview process will include a mandatory in-person component to assess technical depth and cultural fit within the team.

Special Requirements

Local candidates ONLY; 3 days a week onsite in NYC; In-person interview required; Banking domain experience preferred.
