Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Data Engineer to lead efforts in identifying and remediating Protected Health Information (PHI) within non-production environments hosted on AWS. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and document cleanup processes that safeguard sensitive healthcare data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and classify PHI data across lower environments (development, test, staging).
  • Design and implement automated scripts/workflows for PHI detection and cleanup.
  • Collaborate with compliance and audit teams to align with HIPPA requirements.
  • Document cleanup processes, ensuring audit-ready transparency and reproducibility.
  • Partner with DevOps and QA teams to enforce PHI-free lower environments.
  • Establish guardrails and monitoring to prevent future PHI leakage.
  • Provide executive-ready reporting on progress, risks, and remediation outcomes.

Required Skills & Experience

  • AWS expertise: Redshift, S3, Glue, RDS, IAM, and data pipeline orchestration.
  • Strong SQL skills for PHI identification and remediation.
  • Experience with ETL workflows (AWS Glue, Python, Pandas, SQLAlchemy).
  • Familiarity with PHI data classification frameworks and compliance standards (HIPAA).
  • Proven ability to design production-safe, audit-ready solutions.
  • Experience in documenting technical processes for compliance audits.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for complex data reconciliation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in healthcare BI/RCM projects.
  • Hands-on experience with data masking, anonymization, or tokenization techniques.
  • Knowledge of audit frameworks and operational transparency practices.
  • Ability to work across time zones and coordinate with offshore/USA teams.

Deliverables

  • Clean lower environments free of PHI data by Q3.
  • Audit-ready documentation of cleanup processes.
  • Preventive monitoring and guardrails to ensure ongoing compliance.

Compensation & Location

Salary: $100,000 – $150,000 per year (Estimated)
