Job Summary:

ICON is seeking a Data Engineering Manager for a hybrid role in Oklahoma City, OK. This is a critical people management position, not a hands-on coding role, responsible for leading a team of four data engineers in a greenfield healthcare environment. The manager will be instrumental in establishing structure, setting standards, and driving reliability in data pipelines. Strong technical credibility in data engineering, particularly with SQL and Python-based pipelines, is essential, along with direct people management experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of four data engineers, focusing on people development and team performance.
  • Establish structure, set standards, and drive reliability in data engineering processes.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and support of application technologies, strategies, and timelines.
  • Create high-performing teams and remove impediments in collaboration with agile coaches.
  • Ensure effective staff management, including hiring, performance evaluation, and counseling.
  • Collaborate with operational departments to understand business objectives and align application technology solutions.
  • Manage, plan, and allocate resources for system and departmental platforms (e.g., EPIC, Microsoft, other clinical and non-clinical applications).
  • Communicate project/initiative purposes and priorities to the team.
  • Ensure regulatory and assurance compliance across the unit.
  • Support the development and craftsmanship of Product Area Leads, Technical Leads, and Product Owners.
  • Deliver state-of-the-art solutions that align with business processes and long-term objectives.
  • Foster cross-cultural collaboration, leveraging diversity and effective communication.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7-10 years of overall professional experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of direct people management experience with engineers.
  • Mandatory Healthcare industry experience (Hospitals, Clinics, Old age medical homes, Nursing homes). Pharmaceutical companies and Health Insurance companies are excluded.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a technical team, not just manage projects or serve as a technical lead.
  • Experience operating in ambiguity and building structure in an early-stage or evolving environment.
  • Strong technical credibility in data engineering, including experience overseeing SQL-based data work.
  • Working knowledge of Python in a data engineering or pipeline context.
  • Experience with batch and API-driven data integrations and data movement between systems.
  • Ability to evaluate technical designs, ask probing questions, and set standards for reliability, monitoring, and scalability.
  • Experience supporting regulatory and compliance considerations within a healthcare or similar environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems or a healthcare-related field.
  • 3-5 years of leadership experience (e.g., Project Manager, IT Lead).
