Role Summary: Data Platform Engineering Strategy Lead

In the rapidly evolving landscape of global finance in 2026, the Data Platform Engineering Strategy Lead plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of Payments and Transaction Banking. Based in New York City with a hybrid work model, this senior-level leadership position is responsible for defining, modernizing, and scaling enterprise-grade data platforms that support high-volume, low-latency financial transactions. As the industry shifts toward real-time processing, enhanced data transparency, and AI-driven insights, your strategic vision will ensure the bank remains competitive, secure, and compliant.

Strategic Vision and Architecture

You will define and own a multi-year data platform engineering roadmap aligned to Payments and Transaction Banking priorities, including real-time payments, ACH, SWIFT, and global clearing and settlement systems. This involves establishing cloud-native and lakehouse-style reference architectures that balance the need for immediate delivery with long-term modernization and cost efficiency. You will be instrumental in transitioning legacy data warehouses into scalable, cloud-ready platforms capable of handling the massive influx of transactional data from modern payment networks.

  • Lead the adoption of ISO 20022-aligned data models to standardize global payment messaging and improve interoperability.
  • Enable enriched payment event data and standardized integration patterns across both batch and streaming use cases.
  • Assess and selectively adopt emerging data technologies, including distributed query engines, open table formats (e.g., Iceberg, Delta Lake), and streaming frameworks.
  • Evaluate and implement AI/ML use cases for payments data, such as anomaly detection, fraud signals, and liquidity forecasting.
  • Define platform patterns for ML lifecycle management (MLOps) and secure integration into enterprise data platforms.
  • Sponsor and govern proofs of concept (PoCs), ensuring clear success criteria and alignment with enterprise engineering standards.
  • Industrialize validated solutions into reusable accelerators, templates, and patterns for distributed engineering teams.

Governance, Risk, and Leadership

As a trusted advisor to payments business leaders and technology stakeholders, you will influence platform investment decisions and drive engineering standards across the organization. You will ensure rigorous alignment with enterprise data governance, metadata, lineage, and data quality standards, which are critical for regulatory reporting and risk management. Your role involves embedding regulatory and conduct-risk considerations (e.g., data privacy, auditability, model risk) into every platform and solution design, promoting responsible AI and controlled technology adoption in a highly regulated environment.

Qualifications and Impact

With over 10 years of experience in data engineering and strategy, you possess a deep understanding of the financial services domain. You are a visionary leader capable of articulating complex technical trade-offs to non-technical executives. Your work will directly impact the bank’s ability to provide real-time liquidity insights, reduce fraud, and meet the demanding requirements of global regulators. This is a high-visibility role that requires a blend of architectural expertise, hands-on engineering oversight, and exceptional stakeholder management skills.

Special Requirements

Domain restrictions: Payments and Transaction Banking (ACH, SWIFT, ISO 20022). Hybrid NYC requirement. Experience with Cloud-native Lakehouse architectures and MLOps is required.
