Role Overview

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and strategic Data PMO / Program Manager to lead a high-impact Technology Business Management (TBM) transformation initiative. This position is situated within the American Express Technology organization in New York, NY. The successful candidate will be responsible for orchestrating large-scale programs that bridge the gap between technical operations and business enablement. This is a pivotal role designed to drive process integration, reporting transformation, and cross-functional governance across a matrixed enterprise environment. The ideal candidate is a strategic, analytical, and execution-focused program leader who thrives in complex enterprise environments and can drive clarity, structure, and measurable outcomes across matrixed organizations. You will be at the forefront of defining how technology investments are managed and optimized within a global financial leader.

Key Responsibilities and Strategic Impact

  • Transformation Leadership: Support the design and execution of Technology Business Management processes. This includes managing change management communications for enterprise-wide programs to ensure seamless adoption of new methodologies and operational standards.
  • Process Integration: Develop robust data requirements and training modules to integrate Tech Ops into Technology Investment Planning (TIP). You will work closely with Technology Business Enablement (TBE) teams to align infrastructure and security workflows with agile ways of working.
  • Data & Reporting Rationalization: Partner with product managers and data owners across Infrastructure and Information Security domains. Your goal will be to define user journeys and rationalize the enterprise reporting ecosystem, ensuring that scorecards provide actionable insights for leadership.
  • Stakeholder Management: Serve as the primary liaison for Tech Ops during process adoption discussions. You will be expected to drive consensus among senior leadership in Technology, Product, and Portfolio management, breaking down silos to achieve shared objectives.
  • Governance Frameworks: Establish and maintain structured program governance. This involves tracking shared goals, KPIs, and ensuring that risk mitigation strategies are proactively implemented across all workstreams to prevent project delays.
  • Executive Insights: Perform deep-dive business data analysis to generate insights for executive-level reviews. You will be responsible for drafting presentations and talking points that communicate program health and strategic alignment to the C-suite.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead integrations for key initiatives such as TIPc, Permit to X, and Tech Strategy. Promote a culture of excellence through regular retrospectives, workshops, and transparent performance tracking.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Professional Experience: A minimum of 7 years of experience in a Program Management or PMO leadership role. Experience specifically within Technology Business Enablement, PMO, or Data/Analytics organizations is highly preferred.
  • Strategic Execution: Proven track record of delivering high-visibility transformation initiatives in complex, high-pressure environments. You must demonstrate the ability to drive clarity and execute effectively even without direct authority over cross-functional teams.
  • Analytical Prowess: Advanced capabilities in translating complex data sets into strategic insights. You should be comfortable using data to inform product decisions and operational improvements.
  • Communication Excellence: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. The role requires the ability to break down silos and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization, including executive leadership.
  • Operational Knowledge: Familiarity with portfolio-based operating models, RACI frameworks, and technology culture transformation initiatives.

Work Environment and Culture

Joining this team means working at the intersection of finance and technology. The environment is fast-paced, data-driven, and collaborative. You will be part of a group that values innovation, transparency, and continuous learning. As a Data PMO leader, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of technology investment and operational efficiency at one of the world’s most respected financial institutions. This role offers significant exposure to senior leadership and the chance to make a lasting impact on the enterprise’s technological landscape. We are looking for a leader who can navigate ambiguity and deliver results that align with our long-term strategic goals while fostering a culture of accountability and high performance.
