Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Scientist with a specialized focus on Healthcare Data and Analytics. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in statistical modeling, machine learning, and healthcare domain knowledge to extract meaningful insights from complex datasets. You will play a pivotal role in driving data-driven decision-making processes that improve patient outcomes, optimize operational efficiencies, and enhance the overall quality of care. This position requires a deep understanding of healthcare-specific data structures, including claims data, electronic health records (EHR), and clinical registries. You will work at the intersection of technology and medicine to solve some of the most challenging problems in the healthcare industry today.
Core Responsibilities
- Analyze large-scale healthcare datasets to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies that can inform clinical and business strategies.
- Develop and deploy predictive models for various use cases, such as risk stratification, patient readmission, and disease progression.
- Perform comprehensive exploratory data analysis (EDA) to understand the underlying structure and quality of the data before modeling.
- Design and implement data pipelines that facilitate the efficient processing and transformation of raw healthcare data into actionable insights.
- Collaborate with clinical staff, operations managers, and business executives to translate complex healthcare challenges into analytical frameworks.
- Ensure all data handling and modeling activities comply with HIPAA regulations and other relevant data privacy standards.
- Create intuitive dashboards and visualizations using tools like Tableau or Power BI to communicate findings to non-technical stakeholders.
- Apply advanced machine learning techniques, including natural language processing (NLP), to analyze unstructured clinical text and notes.
- Monitor model performance in production environments and perform regular updates to ensure continued accuracy and relevance.
- Participate in the development of data governance policies to ensure the integrity and security of healthcare information.
Required Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, specifically for data science and statistical analysis.
- Expert-level SQL skills for querying and manipulating large relational databases and data warehouses.
- In-depth knowledge of healthcare data standards, including ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and HL7/FHIR.
- Experience with data science libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, and deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
- Strong foundation in statistical theory, including regression analysis, hypothesis testing, and experimental design.
- Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for scalable data processing.
- Proven ability to work with messy, real-world data and perform effective feature engineering to improve model performance.
Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field is highly preferred.
- Significant experience working within the healthcare industry, specifically in payer or provider analytics environments.
- Understanding of value-based care models, population health management strategies, and healthcare reimbursement systems.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information to a diverse audience of clinicians and executives.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Special Requirements
Domain restriction: Healthcare (Claims, EHR/EMR). Compliance: HIPAA. HL7/FHIR standards preferred.
Compensation & Location
Salary: $114,400 – $140,000 per year
