Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) for a long-term contract position. The role requires strong expertise in MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB, with a primary focus on MySQL and PostgreSQL. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting our database infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, and security. This is a hybrid role requiring some in-person presence at our client’s location in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. Local candidates are strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer and maintain MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB databases.
- Perform database installations, configurations, and upgrades.
- Monitor database performance and troubleshoot issues under pressure.
- Implement and manage database replication and high availability solutions.
- Execute on-demand database refreshes from production to non-production environments.
- Manage database backups and recovery processes.
- Ensure database security and compliance with company policies.
- Work with AWS services such as EC2 and RDS for database deployment and management.
- Utilize automation tools like Ansible and AWS CloudFormation for infrastructure management.
- Troubleshoot production issues and provide timely resolutions.
- Collaborate with development teams to optimize database performance and support application needs.
- Develop and maintain shell scripts for database administration tasks.
- Understand and tune stored procedures as required.
Mandatory Skills:
- MySQL (60%+)

- Production troubleshooting under pressure
- AWS (EC2, RDS) knowledge
- Automation exposure (Ansible, CloudFormation)
- ACID, normalization, transactions mastery
- Fast decision-making

Recommended Skills:
- MongoDB experience
- HAProxy, Keepalived configuration and management
- Experience with blue-green deployments for upgrades
- Knowledge of Redis
- Understanding and tuning stored procedures
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Proven experience as a Database Administrator with a strong focus on open-source databases.
- Demonstrated ability to handle production troubleshooting in high-pressure environments.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
- Experience with automation tools for infrastructure management.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Interview Process:
The interview process will involve two rounds with Tavant Technologies, including one in-person technical round at the client location.
Work Environment:
This is a hybrid role located in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. Candidates must be local to the area.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $60 – $85 per year (Estimated)
