Role Overview
CloudThink Tech Inc is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Database Developer for a critical 12-month contract engagement. This role is based in Chicago, IL, specifically near the O’Hare International Airport area. The position follows a hybrid work model, requiring the consultant to be onsite at the office at least two days per week. As a Senior Database Developer, you will be responsible for the architecture, development, and optimization of data systems that power core business applications.
Project Scope and Objectives
The primary focus of this engagement is a large-scale migration project. Our client is currently in the process of transitioning a core internal application to a sophisticated new vendor-provided application. This transition involves complex backend integrations. The vendor’s data architecture is primarily built on PostgreSQL, while the client’s legacy internal data resides within Oracle databases. As a Database Developer, you will be the bridge between these two environments, ensuring data integrity, performance, and seamless integration during the migration lifecycle. You will be tasked with mapping legacy data structures to modern schemas while maintaining business continuity.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain complex database schemas and objects in both PostgreSQL and Oracle environments.
- Develop and optimize ETL processes using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) to facilitate data movement between disparate systems.
- Create, modify, and manage enterprise-level reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) to provide stakeholders with actionable insights during and after the migration.
- Perform deep-dive troubleshooting of backend data issues, identifying bottlenecks and implementing efficient SQL performance tuning strategies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including application developers and business analysts, to understand data requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- Utilize C# or VB.NET skills to assist with application-level integrations and backend development tasks as needed.
- Ensure all database development adheres to industry best practices for security, scalability, and reliability.
- Document data flows and integration points to ensure long-term maintainability of the new system.
Technical Requirements
- Core Expertise: Extensive professional experience working with Oracle and PostgreSQL databases is mandatory. You should be comfortable navigating the nuances of both platforms, including dialect differences and performance optimization techniques.
- ETL & Reporting: Proven track record of developing robust ETL packages using SSIS and designing complex reports with SSRS.
- SQL Proficiency: Advanced SQL programming skills, including the ability to write complex queries, stored procedures, triggers, and functions.
- Development Languages: While the focus is on the database, proficiency in C# or VB.NET is highly desired to support the broader integration efforts and backend troubleshooting.
- Cloud Exposure: Experience with Azure environments is a significant plus, as the client looks toward modernizing their infrastructure and leveraging cloud-native data services.
Work Environment and Location
This position is located in the vibrant business hub near O’Hare Airport in Chicago. The hybrid schedule offers the perfect balance of collaborative onsite interaction and the flexibility of remote work. Candidates must be local to the Illinois area or willing to relocate immediately to meet the two-day onsite requirement. The project duration is slated for 12 months, providing long-term stability for a contract professional. The office environment is fast-paced and requires a proactive individual who can manage their time effectively between remote and onsite days.

Salary: $145,000 – $185,000 per year (Estimated)
