Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated DIGITAL LEAD Backend Java Developer to join our team. This is a hybrid role requiring 2-3 days per week in the Chicago, IL office. The contract is for 12 months with the potential for extension.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead backend development efforts using Java 17.
- Develop and maintain RESTful web services.
- Utilize AWS services including IAM, Kinesis, DynamoDB, API Gateway, SQS, SNS, and KMS.
- Write efficient and performant SQL queries.
- Implement DevOps best practices.
- Design and build high-availability and reliable solutions.
- Lead a team and a project, demonstrating strong leadership qualities.
- Mentor and guide junior developers.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features.
- Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs.
- Optimize application for maximum speed and scalability.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Minimum of 4+ years of lead experience.
- Proven experience leading a team of at least 8 people.
- Demonstrated experience leading both a team and a project.
- Strong proficiency in Java 17.
- Extensive backend development experience (75% or more of resume should reflect backend work).
- Experience with RESTful web services.
- Knowledge of AWS services: IAM, Kinesis, DynamoDB, API Gateway, SQS, SNS, KMS.
- Proficiency in writing complex SQL queries.
- Experience with DevOps practices.
- Experience in building high-availability and reliable solutions.
- Must have 1-2 bullet points in their resumes for each project they were a lead, detailing the number of members (onshore and/or offshore) and their responsibilities in leading the project.
- Tenure of 2+ years in recent roles is preferred.
- Version of Java (Java 17+) must be listed on the resume.
- Resume must be 3 pages or less.
Additional Information:
- This is a contract position for 12 months with potential for extension.
- Work authorization: No H1B sponsorship available.
- Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid – 2-3 days per week).

Compensation & Location
Salary: $70 – $90 per year (Estimated)
