Role Overview

The Functional Test Engineer specializing in Sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) is a critical role within our financial services technology division. This position requires a deep understanding of regulatory compliance frameworks and the technical proficiency to validate complex screening and monitoring systems. As a contract consultant based in Cincinnati, Ohio, you will be responsible for ensuring that our financial systems remain compliant with global regulations while maintaining high operational efficiency. This role is 100% on-site, requiring direct collaboration with local compliance and engineering teams to mitigate financial risk and ensure robust system performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, execute, and document comprehensive test cases for AML, Know Your Customer (KYC), Sanctions Screening, and Transaction Monitoring systems.
  • Validate complex screening rules, alert generation logic, and false-positive handling procedures to ensure system accuracy.
  • Perform end-to-end workflow testing across various compliance platforms to identify potential bottlenecks or logic gaps.
  • Conduct rigorous data validation on inputs, including sanctions lists, customer data, and transaction feeds, to ensure accurate system behavior.
  • Support System Integration Testing (SIT), functional testing, and regression testing across platforms such as Actimize, SAS AML, and Oracle FCCM.
  • Log defects, manage retesting of fixes, and collaborate with development, compliance, and Business Analyst teams to resolve issues promptly.
  • Ensure all test coverage aligns with regulatory expectations from OFAC, FATF, and EU/UN sanctions bodies.
  • Track testing progress using qTest and manage defect triage and resolution within Digital.ai.
  • Create test data on an as-needed basis and provide support to the automation team for script development.

Technical Environment

The successful candidate will work within a sophisticated technology stack designed for high-volume financial transaction processing. You will be expected to navigate and test within environments utilizing Oracle FCCM, SAS AML, and Actimize. Proficiency in defect management tools like Digital.ai and test management suites like qTest is essential. The role involves significant manual testing activities across web and data components, requiring a meticulous eye for detail and a strong understanding of data integrity. You will be tasked with simulating real-world financial scenarios to stress-test the system’s ability to detect illicit activities.

Regulatory and Domain Expertise

In the evolving landscape of 2026, financial institutions face unprecedented scrutiny. This role demands a professional who stays current with OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control) regulations, FATF (Financial Action Task Force) recommendations, and various international sanctions lists. Your ability to translate these regulatory requirements into actionable test scenarios is paramount. You will act as a bridge between the technical QA team and the compliance department, ensuring that every software update or system change adheres to the strictest legal standards. Understanding the nuances of transaction monitoring and the lifecycle of an AML alert is vital for success in this position.

Collaboration and Quality Assurance

Quality is at the heart of our operations. You will follow established QA processes and contribute to consistent, high-quality downstream outputs. Collaboration is key; you will work closely with Product and QA teams to understand requirements and provide adequate test coverage. By reporting testing status to senior QA team members and participating in defect triage, you ensure that the project remains on schedule and meets the high-performance standards expected in the financial sector. Your contributions will directly impact the firm’s ability to prevent financial crime and maintain its reputation in the global market.
