Position Overview
Jefferson County is seeking a dedicated and experienced GIS Programmer to join the COOP team in Golden, Colorado. This hybrid role offers a unique opportunity to work on complex geographic databases and automated GIS workflows for a major public sector entity. As an Application Systems Analyst / Programmer, you will be at the forefront of designing and maintaining spatial data solutions that impact the local community. This is a long-term 36-month contract with a strong potential for conversion to a permanent role based on performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze, design, and develop complex GIS databases and feature sets to support county-wide initiatives.
- Develop custom software applications and scripts to automate GIS data capture, conversion, and maintenance processes.
- Architect application and data structures to ensure high integrity and efficient data exchange.
- Debug, enhance, and troubleshoot GIS programming code and spatial data integration issues.
- Perform rigorous QA/QC on spatial data using both manual and automated methodologies.
- Review and validate mapping data provided by government agencies and external contractors for accuracy and compliance.
- Coordinate with external suppliers and contractors to ensure project milestones are met.
- Manage project schedules and budgets, providing regular technical guidance and recommendations to senior management.
- Design programmatic solutions to fulfill specific map and data requests from various stakeholders.
Required Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in the Esri ArcGIS Suite, including Desktop, Pro, Server, and Portal.
- Strong experience with ArcGIS Online and open-source tools like QGIS.
- Expertise in managing Enterprise Geodatabases (ArcSDE) and SQL spatial data integration.
- Advanced Python scripting skills, specifically utilizing ArcPy and the ArcGIS API for automation.
- Experience with FME (Feature Manipulation Engine) for complex ETL processes.
- Solid understanding of data structures, spatial algorithms, and data conversion techniques.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
- 5 to 8 years of professional experience in spatial analysis and database management.
- Proven track record in workflow automation and project coordination.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage stakeholder expectations effectively.
Special Requirements
Must be local to Golden, CO; Hybrid role; Potential for contract-to-hire based on performance.
Compensation & Location
Salary: $120,000 – $165,000 per year (Estimated)
