Role Overview
The Healthcare Business Analyst SQL Query Expert is a critical role within our clinical data operations team in Raritan, NJ. This position requires a unique blend of deep healthcare domain knowledge and advanced technical proficiency in SQL. As a Senior Business Analyst, you will serve as the primary bridge between clinical stakeholders, business leadership, and technical engineering teams. Your mission is to transform complex healthcare data into actionable insights that drive operational efficiency, improve patient outcomes, and ensure regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will be responsible for navigating the complexities of healthcare datasets, ensuring that data integrity is maintained while providing high-level analysis to support strategic decision-making processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate requirement gathering sessions with clinical staff, insurance providers, and administrative stakeholders to define project scopes and objectives.
- Develop comprehensive Business Requirement Documents (BRD) and Functional Specification Documents (FSD) that translate clinical needs into technical blueprints.
- Utilize expert-level SQL skills to perform deep-dive analysis on massive datasets, including claims data, member eligibility, provider networks, and electronic health records (EHR).
- Design and implement complex SQL queries involving multi-table joins, window functions, and Common Table Expressions (CTEs) to validate data integrity.
- Monitor and ensure strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and other healthcare data privacy standards throughout the data lifecycle.
- Collaborate with ETL developers to optimize data pipelines and ensure the accuracy of data warehousing solutions.
- Lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT) phases, creating test cases and validating that technical outputs align perfectly with business expectations.
- Create and maintain data mapping documentation for ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
- Present data-driven findings to executive leadership, providing recommendations for strategic process improvements.
- Identify data quality issues and work with IT teams to resolve inconsistencies in reporting.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a Business Analyst specifically within the healthcare industry.
- Advanced mastery of SQL (Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL) with a focus on performance tuning and complex data extraction.
- In-depth understanding of healthcare data models, including Payer (Claims, Enrollment) and Provider (Clinical, EMR) domains.
- Familiarity with healthcare standards such as HL7, FHIR, and various medical coding sets.
- Proven experience working in both Agile/Scrum and traditional Waterfall project management environments.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical clinical audiences.
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI to create executive dashboards.
- Basic proficiency in Python or R for advanced statistical data analysis.
- Prior experience working in a pharmaceutical or clinical research environment.
- Knowledge of ETL processes and data warehousing architecture.
Special Requirements
Healthcare domain expertise required; HIPAA compliance knowledge; Onsite requirement in Raritan, NJ.
Compensation & Location
Salary: $115,000 – $155,000 per year (Estimated)
