Role Overview
Appian Infotech is seeking a highly specialized IAM Engineer or Okta Developer for a critical contract engagement in Sacramento, CA. This hybrid role requires a professional who can navigate the complexities of modern Identity and Access Management (IAM) ecosystems. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing, managing, and optimizing identity solutions across multiple platforms, including Okta, ForgeRock, and Ping Identity. This position demands a high level of technical proficiency and the ability to engage directly with end-clients to deliver robust security architectures.
Core Technical Responsibilities
- Platform Management: Lead the implementation and administration of Okta (SSO, MFA, Workflows), ForgeRock (OpenAM, OpenIDM, OpenDJ, OpenIG), and Ping Identity (PingFederate, PingAccess, PingDirectory).
- Authentication Protocols: Apply deep knowledge of security protocols such as OAuth, SAML, OpenID Connect (OIDC), and Kerberos to ensure secure and seamless user authentication and authorization.
- Custom Development: Utilize programming and scripting languages including Java, Python, JavaScript, Groovy, and PowerShell to create custom integrations, automations, and platform enhancements.
- Cloud & Hybrid Integration: Integrate IAM platforms with AWS cloud environments, on-premises legacy systems, and various SaaS applications using RESTful APIs.
- Identity Federation: Design and maintain identity federation structures to securely connect users across disparate domains and organizational boundaries.
- Security & Compliance: Ensure all IAM systems adhere to global encryption standards (SSL/TLS, PKI) and meet regulatory compliance requirements such as GDPR, HIPAA, and SOC2.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Certifications: Must be Okta Certified (Professional or higher). Additional certifications in ForgeRock or Ping Identity are highly desirable.
- Experience Level: This is a senior-level role. Candidates must have significant hands-on experience and a proven track record of direct end-client engagement.
- DevOps Integration: Proficiency with modern DevOps tools including Jenkins, Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform for automated deployments and infrastructure as code.
- Problem Solving: Advanced analytical skills to troubleshoot complex identity lifecycle issues and resolve authentication failures in high-pressure environments.
- Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively across cross-functional teams and communicate technical security concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Work Environment & Constraints
This position is based in Sacramento, CA, and follows a hybrid work model requiring at least 2 days of onsite presence per week. Candidates must be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment with high visibility. Please note that this role has strict visa and experience constraints: we are unable to consider OPT candidates or junior resources for this requirement. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in client-facing consulting or external service delivery rather than purely internal corporate IT experience.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $135,000 – $185,000 per year
