Role Overview: Java Backend & API Developer
Vyze Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Java Backend Developer for a critical 12-month contract engagement in Quincy, Massachusetts. This role is central to a high-impact Integrated Eligibility and Enrollment program aimed at revolutionizing how constituents interact with state agencies. The project focuses on creating a unified, seamless experience for citizens managing benefits, requiring a developer who can bridge the gap between robust backend engineering and modern DevOps practices.
Technical Environment and Responsibilities
As a Senior API Developer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of RESTful services. Your primary focus will be designing and maintaining microservices using Java 8 or higher and the Spring Boot framework. A significant portion of the role involves handling complex JSON payloads from various external agencies, requiring sophisticated business logic implementation to ensure data integrity and accurate processing. You will be expected to:
- Develop and enhance microservices that integrate with multiple state agency systems.
- Implement robust error handling, logging, and retry mechanisms to ensure high availability.
- Write comprehensive unit and integration tests to maintain code quality.
- Support CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, Jenkins, and JIRA.
- Manage environment-specific configurations and perform deployments across DEV, QA, UAT, and PROD.
- Monitor application health on AWS using Cloudwatch, Prometheus, and Grafana.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must possess at least 7 years of professional software development experience, with a minimum of 5 years dedicated to backend API development. Proficiency in Java 8+ and Spring Boot is non-negotiable. Additionally, 3-4 years of DevOps exposure is required to support the deployment and configuration management aspects of the role. Experience with Linux environments and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is essential for troubleshooting and application support. We are looking for individuals who have a deep understanding of HTTP protocols, REST principles, and third-party integrations.
Location and Logistics
This is a hybrid position requiring 2 to 3 days onsite per week at the Quincy, MA office. Due to the nature of the project and the need for occasional in-person collaboration, candidates must currently reside in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, or Rhode Island. The interview process includes a Skype screening followed by a mandatory in-person interview in Quincy. Compensation & Location
Salary: $145,000 – $190,000 per year (Estimated)
