Role Overview
Techstar Group is seeking a highly experienced Java Lead Engineer to spearhead critical application development within the Payments Domain. This role is pivotal for our financial services clients in Charlotte, NC, and Edison, NJ, focusing on the modernization of payment systems. As a Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for architecting and designing enterprise-scale solutions that handle high-volume transactions across various payment networks including SWIFT, FED, and CHIPS. This position requires a deep understanding of the Java ecosystem and a proven track record of delivering robust, scalable microservices in a cloud-native environment.
Technical Requirements
- Over 10 years of professional experience in application development with a focus on Java technologies.
- Expertise in Spring Boot, Microservices architecture, and Reactive programming.
- Hands-on experience with Kafka for real-time data streaming and MongoDB for NoSQL data management.
- Proficiency in OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) and Kubernetes for container orchestration.
- Strong background in Payments Transformation, specifically with ISO 20022 standards and legacy system integration.
- Experience with SWIFT, FED, and CHIPS messaging protocols and settlement processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the architectural design and implementation of payment processing engines.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical roadmaps for payment modernization.
- Ensure high availability and performance of microservices through rigorous testing and optimization.
- Mentor junior and mid-level developers, conducting code reviews and promoting best practices.
- Interface with senior stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
- Manage the deployment pipeline and ensure seamless integration with existing financial infrastructure.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $165,000 – $215,000 per year (Estimated)
