Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Java Support Engineer to join our dynamic technical team in San Jose, CA. This onsite position is critical for maintaining the stability and performance of our enterprise-level Java applications. As a Support Engineer, you will be the first line of defense against production issues, ensuring that our systems run smoothly and efficiently to meet the needs of our global user base. This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise, analytical thinking, and excellent communication skills. You will work closely with development teams to ensure that software updates are deployed seamlessly and that any regressions are caught and addressed immediately.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive support for Java-based applications, identifying and resolving complex production issues in a timely manner.
  • Perform deep-dive root cause analysis (RCA) by conducting thorough Java code walkthroughs and debugging sessions to identify logic errors or performance bottlenecks.
  • Utilize SQL proficiency to extract critical data for reporting and troubleshooting purposes, ensuring data integrity across all platforms.
  • Execute and optimize existing SQL queries to improve system performance and generate operational reports that drive business decisions.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of support tickets, from initial triage to final resolution, while strictly adhering to defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Participate in incident management processes, including triage, escalation, and clear communication with stakeholders during critical system outages.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, QA engineers, and product managers, to escalate and resolve high-priority incidents.
  • Document support procedures, known issues, and resolution steps to build a robust knowledge base for the team.

Technical Requirements

  • Extensive experience in Java application support, with a strong understanding of the Java ecosystem, JVM tuning, and runtime environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL and relational database management systems (RDBMS) for complex data extraction and analysis.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret Java code to identify bugs and performance bottlenecks within a production environment.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools and log analysis techniques (such as Splunk or ELK) to proactively identify potential system failures.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment with a focus on continuous improvement and rapid response to changing priorities.

Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • A proactive mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality support and maintaining system reliability.

Work Environment and Benefits

This is an onsite contract position located in the heart of Silicon Valley. You will work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where innovation is encouraged. While this is a 6-month contract, there is potential for extension based on performance and project needs. Please note that this role does not offer relocation assistance, and we are specifically looking for candidates who are already local to the San Jose area or willing to relocate at their own expense. Visa constraints: Only H1B/H4EAD/OPT (No Green Card & GCEAD). Location: Local to California candidates preferred. No relocation allowed.


Compensation & Location

Salary: $60 – $60 per year
