Position Summary
We are looking for a veteran Jira Administrator with over 15 years of experience to lead our Atlassian ecosystem management in San Jose, CA. This onsite role is critical for a major tech client currently navigating a complex transition from Data Center to Cloud environments. The ideal candidate is a subject matter expert who understands the nuances of enterprise-scale Atlassian deployments and can provide both strategic oversight and hands-on technical execution. You will be the primary point of contact for all things Jira, ensuring that our engineering teams have the tools they need to maintain high velocity and quality.
Core Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain Atlassian tools hosted on-premises, including performing application-level upgrades.
- Proactively optimize applications, perform system cleanup, and troubleshoot complex technical issues.
- Lead the evaluation and preparation for a large-scale migration to Jira Cloud.
- Educate and mentor engineering teams on Atlassian best practices and workflow optimization.
- Develop and improve monitoring and alerting systems using tools like New Relic and Splunk.
- Build automations and self-service tools to empower users and reduce administrative overhead.
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams to ensure hardware and software are patched and updated.
- Manage tool integrations at the enterprise level, specifically connecting Jira with GitHub and other CI/CD tools.
Technical Qualifications
- 15+ years of overall IT experience with a heavy focus on Atlassian products.
- 5+ years of Jira Data Center system administration at an enterprise scale.
- 2+ years of Jira Cloud system administration experience.
- Proven experience with Jira Cloud migration projects (Data Center to Cloud).
- Proficiency in RedHat Linux system administration and shell scripting.
- Strong programming skills in Java and fluency with Oracle/SQL databases.
- Experience with orchestration tools and GitHub integration.
- Knowledge of monitoring stacks including Splunk and New Relic.
Migration & Strategy
The core of this role involves the strategic planning and execution of our move to the Atlassian Cloud. You will be responsible for assessing current Data Center configurations, identifying potential migration blockers, and executing the transition with minimal downtime. This requires a deep understanding of how plugins, custom scripts, and integrations behave in a cloud-native environment versus a traditional data center setup. Your expertise will ensure that the organization leverages the full power of Jira Cloud, including its AI-driven features and enhanced collaboration capabilities.
Soft Skills & Collaboration
Beyond technical prowess, this role requires a customer-support mindset. You must be able to communicate complex engineering initiatives to both highly technical programmers and non-technical business users. You will work in a collaborative space that requires a balance of solo deep-work and team-based problem solving. Accountability is key, as you will be responsible for both front-end user experience and back-end system stability. Compensation & Location
Salary: $155,000 – $210,000 per year (Estimated)
