Role Overview and Strategic Impact

The Junior Software Engineer with Python will play a pivotal role in our technology organization, specifically focusing on the backend infrastructure and data integrity of our internal platforms. This position is designed for an ambitious early-career professional who possesses a deep interest in data engineering and automated workflows. You will be integrated into a high-performing team where your contributions directly influence investment operations and reporting accuracy. As we look toward 2026, the complexity of financial data continues to grow, making this role essential for maintaining our competitive edge in the fintech space. This is a long-term contract opportunity that offers significant growth potential as the technology organization expands its footprint.

Core Technical Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy AWS Lambda functions to handle high-volume data ingestion and real-time processing tasks.
  • Maintain and optimize Python-based backend services, ensuring high availability and low latency for internal API consumers.
  • Manage SFTP-based file transfer protocols, implementing robust error handling and automated reconciliation processes to ensure data consistency.
  • Collaborate with senior architects to refine data models within SQL environments, supporting complex analytical queries.
  • Integrate internal systems with Microsoft Dynamics and other third-party platforms to streamline business operations.
  • Participate in the full software development life cycle (SDLC), including code reviews, unit testing, and documentation.
  • Monitor system performance using CloudWatch and implement proactive security measures via IAM and other AWS security services.

Professional Development and Collaboration

Working in a small, fast-moving, in-office team environment, you will have the unique opportunity to collaborate directly with senior technologists and non-technical business stakeholders. This exposure will help you translate operational needs into reliable technical solutions, a skill highly valued in the modern engineering landscape. You will be expected to contribute to the continuous improvement of system reliability and security, ensuring that our data pipelines remain resilient against evolving threats. The ideal candidate is someone who is not only technically proficient but also possesses strong backend and data instincts, allowing them to anticipate potential bottlenecks before they impact production systems.

Technical Environment and Tools

Our stack is heavily centered around AWS serverless architecture, utilizing S3 for storage, Lambda for compute, and CloudWatch for observability. We rely on Git for version control and follow collaborative development practices to maintain high code quality. Prior exposure to financial services or data-intensive environments will be a significant advantage, as it provides the necessary context for the types of datasets and regulatory requirements we handle daily. Candidates should be comfortable working with both structured and semi-structured data, applying Python and SQL to extract meaningful insights and drive automated decision-making processes.

Commitment to Excellence

We are looking for an engineer who takes pride in their work and is committed to building production-grade systems. This means writing clean, maintainable code, creating comprehensive documentation, and ensuring that all systems are thoroughly tested. As a junior member of the team, you will receive mentorship from seasoned professionals, but you will also be given the autonomy to own specific components of the platform. This balance of support and responsibility is designed to accelerate your career growth and prepare you for more senior roles within the organization as we continue to scale our technology operations in Arlington and beyond.
