Job Title: Kong API Gateway Architect

Location: Atlanta, GA (Onsite)

Duration: 6+ Months

Mandatory Skill Requirements:

  • Strong Solution Architect experience with Kong
  • GCP platform experience
  • Terraform
  • GKE / Kubernetes
  • Shell scripting
  • APIGEE
  • Own end-to-end architecture for Kong Konnect and Kong Gateway (Control Plane Data Plane) across on-prem and GCP.
  • Lead ARB reviews, target architecture, security, HADR, observability, and performance-scalability design.
  • Define API governance standards, design-first approach and lifecycle management, collaborate with Security, Network, Infra, and Product teams.

Role Descriptions:

Must-Have Technical Skills:

  • 10 years in integration-API architecture with at least 2 enterprise API gateway programs.
  • Kong Konnect Gateway architecture, decK, declarative config, workspaces, RBAC.
  • Security patterns: TLS, OAuth2/OIDC, API keys, rate limiting, WAF, secrets/cert management.
  • Cloud/on-prem GCP (VPC, load balancing), Linux, networking fundamentals.
  • Observability integration (Dynatrace/logging), audit and compliance controls.
  • CICD and IaC principles (Git, Git branching, Terraform pipelines).

Good to Have Technical Skills:

  • Experience with Apigee/Kong migration programs and multi-org/multi-region topologies.
  • SRE/Chaos/resiliency patterns, service mesh (Istio/Linkerd).
  • Cost/performance optimization and capacity sizing for high TPS gateways.

Salary: $100 – $150 per year (Estimated)
