Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Backend Engineer with a deep specialization in Python and FastAPI to spearhead the development of our next-generation e-commerce and loyalty platforms. This is a high-impact onsite role based in Tempe, AZ, focused on the Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) domain. As a technical leader, you will be responsible for the architecture, design, and implementation of scalable, cloud-native backend systems that power digital ordering, identity management, and customer engagement for millions of users.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the architectural design and development of stateless microservices using Python and FastAPI.
- Architect event-driven systems utilizing asynchronous programming, message queues (SQS/SNS), and streaming platforms like Kafka or MSK.
- Design and govern relational (SQL) and NoSQL (DynamoDB, Cosmos DB) data models optimized for high-volume transactional workloads.
- Implement hub-and-spoke orchestration services to integrate complex third-party systems including Paytronix, payment gateways, and CMS platforms.
- Drive engineering excellence by defining coding standards, conducting rigorous code reviews, and mentoring junior and senior engineers.
- Collaborate with DevOps to implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines.
- Ensure production-grade observability through OpenTelemetry, distributed tracing, and centralized logging.
- Partner with product owners and stakeholders to translate business requirements into resilient technical solutions.
Technical Requirements
- 8-12 years of professional backend engineering experience with a focus on Python.
- Expert-level proficiency in FastAPI and asynchronous programming (async/await).
- Proven track record of leading the architecture for distributed systems at scale.
- Hands-on experience with AWS-native services including Lambda, ECS/EKS, API Gateway, and EventBridge.
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system design patterns (idempotency, retries, DLQs).
- Experience with e-commerce workflows, loyalty programs, and identity federation (OAuth2, JWT).
- Familiarity with QSR or retail operational flows is highly preferred.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $165,000 – $215,000 per year (Estimated)
