Job Description: Lead Design Engineer – Value Engineering (VA/VE)
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Lead Design Engineer specializing in Value Engineering (VA/VE) to join our team. This is an onsite role located in Evans, GA. The primary focus of this position is to drive cost optimization and margin improvement initiatives within the electric vehicle (EV) domain.
Job Overview:
The Lead Design Engineer will be responsible for leading global cross-functional teams, collaborating with suppliers, and executing value engineering strategies from the initial concept phase through to implementation. This role is crucial for enhancing product profitability and competitiveness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) initiatives from concept to launch, encompassing design, analysis, documentation, and product release.
- Apply structured project management methodologies to ensure the timely and successful execution of VA/VE projects.
- Own and drive critical processes including: Requirements Management, Risk Analysis, DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), DVP&R (Design Verification Plan & Report), and Engineering Change Notices (ECN).
- Develop and present compelling business cases for value engineering opportunities to stakeholders and leadership.
- Conduct VA/VE workshops, brainstorming sessions, and ideation sessions with global teams to foster innovation and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Analyze Bills of Materials (BOMs) and cost data to pinpoint areas for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
- Lead technical and project reviews with stakeholders and senior leadership, ensuring alignment and progress.
- Track and report the financial impact and savings generated from VA/VE initiatives.
- Collaborate effectively with global teams, including engineering teams in India, to provide execution support for activities such as testing, prototyping, pilot builds, and evaluations.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Strong, demonstrable experience in Value Engineering / Value Analysis (VA/VE).
- A solid background in automotive or electric vehicle (EV) engineering is essential.
- Expertise in key engineering processes including DFMEA, DVP&R, and Engineering Change processes.
- Proven ability to drive cost optimization and margin improvement initiatives.
- Experience working effectively with cross-functional and global teams.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build and present persuasive business cases and financial justifications.
- Proficiency in developing business cases for potential VA/VE project opportunities.
- Skilled in leading VA/VE brainstorming and ideation sessions with global cross-functional teams to build a pipeline of project opportunities.
- Ability to continuously evaluate product BOMs and relevant product/spend data to identify focus areas for new projects.
- Experience in leading technical and project reviews for assigned projects with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
- Actively participate in reviews across the VA/VE project portfolio and provide constructive feedback on design solutions, risks and mitigations, and timing plans.
- Aid in tracking and monitoring financial impacts and reporting for assigned VA/VE projects.
- Collaborate closely with the India Engineering team to provide local support on VA/VE projects when needed (e.g., supporting local test execution, prototyping, manufacturing pilot builds, jury evaluations, etc.).
