Position Summary: Lead GCP Data Engineer

Hexagon Global Services Inc. is looking for a Lead GCP Data Engineer to join our People Analytics Data Engineering team. This is a remote-first role where you will serve as a technical developer and individual contributor, while also providing mentorship and leadership to a team of talented engineers. The focus of this role is the development of sophisticated data warehouse models, robust data pipelines, and advanced analytics specifically tailored for workforce and HR data within cloud platforms.

Core Responsibilities

  • Data Pipeline Engineering: Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes. You will be responsible for integrating complex HR data from sources like Workday, payroll systems, and talent management platforms.
  • Technical Mentorship: Lead a team of data engineers by providing guidance on coding standards, version control (Git), and best practices in data engineering. You will foster a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
  • Analytics Support: Partner with the People Analytics team to structure data for deep analysis. This involves developing data models and creating reproducible workflows in Python and R to enable efficient reporting.
  • Data Governance: Ensure that all data engineering activities comply with company policies and industry regulations, particularly regarding the confidentiality and security of sensitive HR data.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with HR leaders and IT departments to understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications that support strategic workforce decisions.

Required Technical Skills

  • Cloud Platforms: Expert-level knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP), specifically BigQuery, Dataflow, and Cloud Functions. Familiarity with AWS or Azure is a plus.
  • Programming: High proficiency in Python and R for data manipulation, automation, and statistical analysis.
  • Databases: Strong mastery of SQL and relational database design. Experience with Snowflake or Redshift is highly desirable.
  • HRIS Integration: Working knowledge of Workday or similar HR Information Systems and the specific data flows associated with human capital management.
  • BI Tools: Familiarity with visualization tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, or Visier to support business intelligence initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical mindset and the ability to troubleshoot and automate complex data processes. You should be comfortable working in a remote environment and possess the communication skills necessary to bridge the gap between technical engineering and business-centric HR analytics. This is a unique opportunity to influence the data strategy of a global organization’s most valuable asset: its people.
