Position Summary

We are looking for an experienced Linux Administrator to join our infrastructure team in Minneapolis, MN. This role involves managing a diverse and complex server environment, ensuring high availability, security, and performance across multiple Linux distributions. The ideal candidate will have over 10 years of experience in system administration, with a strong background in automation, security hardening, and large-scale infrastructure management. You will be responsible for the entire server lifecycle, from initial provisioning to decommissioning, while maintaining strict compliance with industry standards.

Core Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers across RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian, and SUSE distributions.
  • Manage physical and virtual Linux environments, primarily utilizing VMware hypervisors.
  • Perform regular system updates, security patching, and hardening based on CIS benchmarks and STIG standards.
  • Configure and manage system services, daemons, and startup processes using systemd and init.d.
  • Implement user account management, access controls, and sudo policies to ensure secure system access.
  • Monitor system performance and resource utilization, performing capacity planning to support business growth.
  • Manage disk storage using LVM, NFS, and iSCSI, ensuring optimal filesystem performance.
  • Deploy new servers using automation tools and kickstart/preseed configurations.
  • Configure network interfaces, routing, VLANs, and bonding/teaming for reliable connectivity.
  • Manage firewalls (iptables, firewalld) and implement VPN solutions like OpenVPN or IPsec.
  • Design and implement backup and recovery strategies using tools such as rsync, Veeam, or Commvault.
  • Develop automation scripts in Bash, Python, or Perl to streamline repetitive tasks and scheduling.

Security & Compliance

  • Implement security best practices and authentication systems including LDAP and Active Directory integration.
  • Manage SSH key infrastructure and secure remote access protocols.
  • Configure intrusion detection systems (IDS/IPS) and perform regular vulnerability assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements such as PCI-DSS, HIPAA, and SOC 2.
  • Manage SSL/TLS certificates and centralized log management using ELK Stack or Splunk.

Monitoring & Performance Tuning

  • Implement comprehensive monitoring solutions using Datadog and other enterprise tools.
  • Analyze system performance metrics (CPU, memory, disk I/O) to identify and resolve bottlenecks.
  • Optimize kernel parameters and system tuning for specific application workloads.
  • Respond to incidents and service requests, performing root cause analysis for system crashes or failures.

Application & Database Support

  • Install and configure web servers (Apache, Nginx) and application servers (Tomcat, JBoss).
  • Support database servers (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle) with basic administration and backup tasks.
  • Coordinate with DBA teams for advanced operations and high-availability configurations.

Special Requirements

10+ years experience required; Experience with System Z – z/Linux preferred; Knowledge of Datadog and ELK stack required.


Compensation & Location

Salary: $130,000 – $170,000 per year

Location: Minneapolis, MN
