Role Overview

The Linux Platform Administrator is a critical role within our infrastructure team, responsible for the stability, security, and performance of our enterprise Linux environment. This hybrid position, based in Saint Paul, MN, requires a local candidate who can balance remote work with on-site requirements. The ideal candidate will possess over a decade of experience in high-availability environments, demonstrating mastery over Red Hat distributions and modern virtualization technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and maintain enterprise-grade Linux server environments, focusing on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and other major distributions.
  • Manage large-scale virtualization and hypervisor infrastructures using Oracle Linux KVM and VMware, ensuring optimal resource allocation and performance.
  • Lead complex migration projects, moving virtual machines across different hypervisors such as VMware, KVM, and Hyper-V without service disruption.
  • Develop and implement automation strategies using Ansible, Python, and Shell scripting to streamline system provisioning, patching, and configuration management.
  • Configure and optimize storage solutions including NFS, CIFS, iSCSI, and NAS/SAN technologies to support data-intensive applications.
  • Maintain robust network services and protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, Active Directory (AD), and LDAP, ensuring seamless integration with existing IT infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with security teams to identify, interpret, and remediate vulnerabilities (CVEs) through automated patching and compensating controls.
  • Provide Level 3+ technical support and escalation for Linux/UNIX-related issues, supporting both local and remote engineering teams.
  • Utilize ServiceNow for comprehensive ITSM processes, including incident, change, and problem management.
  • Create and maintain detailed engineering documentation, system diagrams, and operational runbooks to ensure knowledge transfer and compliance.

Technical Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in IT infrastructure and Linux system administration.
  • Advanced certifications such as Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) are highly preferred.
  • Proven expertise in Cisco/UCS hardware and network/server security best practices.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in complex, multi-vendor environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Compensation & Location

Salary: $135,000 – $175,000 per year (Estimated)
