Position Overview: Senior Mainframe Application Developer
We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Application Developer to join our engineering team in a high-impact role supporting critical systems within the Banking and Finance domain. This position is focused on the design, development, and modernization of core mainframe applications that power essential financial services. The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in IBM Mainframe technologies and a forward-thinking approach to integrating legacy systems with modern development practices. This is an onsite role requiring physical presence at one of our key locations to facilitate close collaboration with technical leads and business stakeholders.
Core Technical Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, and DB2.
- Utilize IMS DB for complex data management and MQ Series for reliable messaging across distributed systems.
- Perform advanced debugging and testing using Xpeditor to ensure high-quality code delivery.
- Integrate mainframe workflows with modern tools such as Spring Boot and Git for version control and CI/CD pipelines.
- Conduct comprehensive unit, integration, and contract testing to validate system integrity.
- Perform peer code reviews and provide constructive feedback to maintain high engineering standards.
- Create and maintain detailed technical documentation for application architectures and process flows.
- Troubleshoot system performance issues and coordinate with infrastructure teams for resolution.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to address and resolve critical application failures in a timely manner.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- 5 to 8 years of professional experience in IBM Mainframe application development.
- Expert-level proficiency in COBOL, JCL, DB2, and IMS DB.
- Proven experience with MQ Series and Xpeditor.
- Working knowledge of modern development frameworks, specifically Spring Boot.
- Experience with Git for source code management in a mainframe environment.
- Strong background in the Banking, Finance, or Insurance domains.
- Demonstrated ability to handle complex data processing issues and research root causes.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $115,000 – $155,000 per year (Estimated)
